Seven String Sei

Why thank you kind sir.

Hope you are keeping well, last time I saw you, you were in a great deal of discomfort as a result of your climbing accident. Has there been any progress?

Regards

Matthew

I forgot, we met in the Gallery. The bone has healed but the larger plate is causing problems. My leg swells up at random. I've been given a 'date' of Jan 06, but the pre med is 2 weeks before the op and I havent had it yet.I'll be on my back for a month and then things should be fine again.

I'm getting back into bass (waiting for an Accugroove Tri12 I bought).
I'll be filling in for a band in London next year all things being equal.

Thanks for asking.

Congratulations Matthew... that's certainly shaping up to be a beautiful bass. I am a big fan of Martin's work and that looks like one of his best ever!

Cheers,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew

I will find out in hopefully under 4 weeks as all the bits are now in and Martin only has to assemble it, which he will start on his return from the Christmas break.

I am starting to get very itchy fingers :hyper:

Sei's are great aren't they. Could you post a picture of yours as I am not sure if I have seen it before, but then again I have a very bad memory. [my daughter calls me 'Dory' from finding nemo. Not seen the new SC shape. I will have to do some research.

Hi
I did not check this in a while. I will get a picture up tommorow I think. or you can try and find it in the Big show your bass post. It is in there.
It is Amazaque top with a bit of flame and ebony fingerboard. Looks really good IMO. :)

Hot off the press, here is the link to some pictures of my bass taken from the Sei bass web site http://www.seibass.com/flam7.html hyper:

I will be taking my own pictures over the next few days and will post them as soon as I can, bass playing allowing :D

I am totally overwhelmed by this Sei and Martin has done an excellent job for me in all respects. A full report will also follow with the photos, once I have got to terms with no controls to fiddle with on the bass, very strange but in a good way.

Sweet! I mean, very nice. The horns look extrenely pointy, because of the black background on the photos.

But tell us, can you comfortably reach those last 5-6 frets at all? I mean, without having to change your grip? On mine, I bump my hand on the lower horn when trying to reach fret 22-23, making those last two frets redundant, really...

Thanks for the kind words. The horns are quite slim but the wenge body wood kind of disappears behing the flame sycamore so it does look thinner than it really is. The shot of the back of the body shows it more clearly [hold your mouse over the front picture].

Re fret access, I do have to alter my hand position a little bit but I am still able to reach all frets for either single notes or chords. However I will not be up there every song but when I need to they should be reachable with relative ease. In reality I find that my body restricts access more than the bass!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

D.A.R.K.

The sound is quite like a Jazz with a bit of growl. I am very pleased with it because it is passive and goes straight from pickup to jack with no preamp, which obviously means I have only my fingers to get my tone. My only concession is a coil tap to give me either humbucker or single coil. I chose wenge as the body wood to give me a low mid growl and the sycamore facing and fingerboard to give me some snap and I think the wood choice works really well.

From first impressions the tone I have as a starting block is very usable in its own right and just by digging in or playing nearer the neck or bridge I do get a lot of variation.

I think it will take a good few weeks to really get to know this bass tone wise, but it is so good to look at and so easy to play that I am happy to spend the time practicing.:D

Matthew
