Those cabs are amazing, thanks! The three on the left are Natural, the one on the far right is actually Brown/Walnut even though every picture makes it look red. I am not sure about how the Gibson pickups sound, but the ones in the Arias sound very warm and "70s". All were strung with flats when I acquired them as well. The best player by far is the second one from the left (EB-0 or model 1980). Whoever set it up knew what they were doing.

Okay, I was wondering. They look pretty yellow in the picture there, but you can seemingly see separate pieces of wood on the second one from the left, so that had me thinking natural.

Anyway, they're making me want a yellow SG :)

Yes! Also the second one from the left has more distinct lines on the body indicating multiple pieces. The far left has similar lines but not as clear.

Speaking of Aria, do you have the two point bridges? Did you replace them, and if so with what?

According to the specs from Matsumoku.org it is a 1 way combination bridge. Assuming the ones on mine are the originals. I even consider my Walnut Aria to be a A-1910 but I am not sure, looking into it when I get time. This was also 1973.

that was my whole point of replacing them. i though that the stock ones looked goofy. they're schaller BM's in nickel with musicman clover leafs installed on them.

Wanted to ask, why did you sell the EB-3 and keep the other two - just that you found you didn't need 3 SG-style basses and, of them, the EB-3 would bring in the most bucks in a sale? Or was it more that you prefer playing the other two?

Kinda particularly interested in your thoughts on tonal comparisons, but any other aspects such as necks, controls, weight or whatever would be interesting, too

Hello all!

I just acquired a Gibson SG bass, it's the 2015 model with the stock Babicz bridge. I popped some La Bella FSs on it and set it up all good and proper, but the A and E strings are rattling in the bridge saddles (yes I'm 100% sure it's this, pushing down on the string between the saddle and the ball end alleviates the problem). I thought perhaps the angle over saddles wasn't sharp enough, but raising the saddles didn't help. I was hoping that if I removed the 1/8" bottom shim plate from the Babicz and raised the saddles accordingly that would sort it but it's obviously not going to work despite the sharper angle that would create. A paper shim between the string and saddle also did nothing. I'm all out of ideas.

Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Congrats on your new bass!

I don't know the answer to your problem (for one, mine doesn't have that bridge), but just to throw out an idea, maybe the bridge saddles were cut too widely for the string gauge you're using (or are otherwise not well shaped).

Difficult-to-troubleshoot rattles suck, so I feel your pain.

Maybe try a different string set, even if just temporarily for troubleshooting purposes.

From your description above, it sounds like you put on the LaBellas (re: "I popped some La Bella FSs on it and set it up all good and proper"). If so, did the strings that were on the bass when you bought it rattle?

Kinda first port of call to be honest. But no, nothing loose whatsoever.

Other strings rattle too unfortunately.

You could temporarily move the A and E strings to the D and G positions, and see if they rattle there. If they don't, then it's a saddle issue.

Are all four saddles identical? Maybe moving them to different positions could help?
