SG & EB Bass Club

Ejaggers, I wanted to buy a set of Flatwounds, but I am very happy with the D'addarios I bought.
I didn't realize how dead the strings that came on the bass were.
Again, this bass was in near mint condition when I bought it.
The strings looked as if they were new, but I have a suspicion this bass was in a closet or under a bed for years, unplayed.
So, these might have been the original strings, but since they were not played much, they looked fairly new.
The new strings make so much of a difference.

More when I'm more familiar with them.

As far as strings, basses or almost anything: there are slim pickins out there in the music store world.

I need strings for my SG and I'm undecided about what to get.
In one of the "Which Strings" threads I asked the question:
"How Long Do Rounds Last If Unplayed".

Thanks for your input because no one else addressed that Q.
It seems that lots of SG players use flats or nylons,
but I have flats on so many of my basses that I wanted something different.
The EXL170S is on my short list....057912

I know what you mean about short scale strings being very unavailable on store shelves. My ETB92S Nylons for my EB-0, are ordered from GC online.

What do you like about nylons?

Seems like I tried some on my Coronado II once and hated them,
but I admit that was light years ago, and I don't really remember what kind they were.

I'm thinking about giving them a try since I hear good things about them from SG players....057912

WoW, a set huh?
I've never seen the guitar in person (except a guy who had a partial one he was restoring),
and have only seen one bass, mine, (except for the reissues).

She is the second bass I've ever owned, and is styling Chromes right now.
My first bass was a Kalamazoo KB, that I traded in for my CII.....057912

Thanks @ajkula66, She's my favorite of all my basses.
This was my main bass for years and should be more road worn than it is.

The scratches near the neck pocket are self-inflicted because one night bourbon decided I should work on the frets.
She has held up pretty good to be 54 years old, but the case is held together by tape, bubble-gum, chicken wire, and glue.

If you ever look up "Hell And Back" in the dictionary, you'll see a pic of her case....057912

Chicken wire ? Nah, we use barbed wire around here...:woot:

LOL. I can imagine...the case for my Bass IV looks like it had been deployed to Iraq, Afganistan and then Iraq again on a combat mission...

That's not bad. When I bought my Guild 6-string it came with the original case that smelled like something had died in it, and I spent the most of that summer airing it out...:vomit:...still retains some odor, and I managed to damage the poor Starfire in a less-than-intelligent move during the process as well, no bourbon involved...:rollno:

I've been using the D'Addario ETB92 series Nylons for so long now, on everything I played over the years, I can just tell you I like the sounds, and the feel I get from them. D'Addario has worked with me in ACES, if I did have any issues. Fantastic customer service. There was one time I had a string length problem on a set of ETB92 Long Scales for an American Standard Jazz. I just E-mailed them to let them know there was a problem. Next thing I know, they took my mailing address info, and sent me a new set at no charge. I never mentioned anything about a replacement set. What strings do I always use, D'addario of course. If I didn't use they're Nylons, I would go back to using D'Addario Chrome Flats.

I have a very specific question regarding these: are you running into intonation issues on the E string above the 14th fret?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom that you may be willing to share.

No, I've never had intonation issues at all while stringing with the ETB92 Nylons. They also have a fine fit in the nut as well.
