Agreed...a plectrum is absolutely necessary for this specific tune.
I actually posted that video originally because I had made comments on a video by former GG members "Three Friends" that the bass player they were using didn't fit the part, and was playing with his fingers. He was too jazzy. So the YouTube page owner said if I thought I could do better go ahead and post it. So I did.
I'd say you nailed it.

Oh, I didn't get a chance to watch them.
I started with my fingers, then switch to a pick for about 20 years, and then switched back to my fingers. Now I use both depending on the sound or the music I'm playing.
I also play guitar, and always use a pick for that.

I'm hoping to get to the ATK at some point soon. I'm trying to get a bunch of custom jobs finished (that means you Jason!) and also get to the long overdue Wal pickup. I'm just running way behind.
The ATK will also be a good size for a Wal treatment.

Sorry I'm a bit slow on this response. Agreed that his sound out of those pickups very much fits the prog rock genre, that's why I like it. In your face, punch you in the gut, cut your throat growl. Sound is subjective but thats my take on the tone
. It's also his playing. Style and technique has so much impact on tone.I wasn't familiar with Neal Morse until now. Very cool. I like the second song.

Once tasted your jazzbuckers, I cannot wait to get my hands on your ATK Version!! This is the sole reason I am still holding onto my ATK!!
I got a question for anyone that has tried the jazzbucker's .i am looking at upgrading to a set for a five string brute bass, just want something strong on the bridge pickup the stock one is rather thin.

Are they standard 4 string size pickups?
My Jazzbuckers can work on any number of strings, so they work fine on narrow 5 strings. I have them in my Ibanez SR-885LE.
Currently I don't have any real five string size Jazz pickup covers.
the pickups are 3.6 and 3.73 in my brute the size listed on the sgd site will work , the bass has 19mm spacing at the bridge.and at the neck pickup the with from outside to outside on the strings is 2.7 inch.I was actually just checking it out as far as the size and was looking at bartolini J pickups and their 4 and 5 string sets are the same size 3.6 and 3.73, and then checked your site for the mounting holes and they are also the same 38mm neck and 40 mm bridge. so they would be a direct drop in .The added tone's i could get with series/single/parallel switching on each pickup would be unreal.

I do have SGD's in my Brute, but I have the MM/J setup (I converted from JJ to MM/J) . I have a Neo MM humbucker at the bridge and a Neo Jazzbucker in the neck which replaced Bartolini 59J's. The neck pickup is not a direct fit, you'll have to widen out the 'ear' cutouts on the pickguard a little and make new mounting holes. It's worth it, though

Still loving my ND3-40s in my Spector. Do you know when 6 string Bartolini sized pickups will be available again? My Ibanez SR is begging for some Neos.

I'm trying to find a new source for the covers. I'll probably have to get them directly from the manufacturer in Korea.
I hope to have them back in stock soon. I'm also running low on the 4 string model. My 5 string covers are from a different manufacturer, and I have about 200 of them.

And almost immediate response from the man himself! Talk about excellent customer service! Although I'll be tempted to route the body for the Wal clone pickup when it comes to be.

It might seem that I sit at the computer all day, but I check my email while I'm working, so I know when something is posted!
Regarding the Wal clone; I'd like to make a 6 string version, but I need to find a cover for it. But I think I can get one from one of the parts makers.
Regarding mmbongo's post about the Jazz cases; The mounting tabs on the neck pickup are the same as the bridge pickup, so they are slightly different from stock Jazz pickups. I wasn't aware of this when I ordred the parts until mmbongo pointed it out to me.
