The Bass Player article was really interesting. She credited switching to bass with helping break her out of a song writing rut. She writes a melody and a bassline and then figures out what chords work with them. Pretty cool.

The Bass Player interview was one of the best they've had for a while, and since they get a bunch of the big names in the pages, that's saying something. I was kinda "meh" about her in the past, but after that issue I need to hear some more. She tackles bass playing as a calling, not just filling a position, and for that I admire her.

Not sure if he still does, but Robert Kearns toured with her on bass for quite a while (and backup vocals).

He was in Big Hat, a tour with Skynard and Cry of Love among others.

A little Two Fingers trivia. Years ago he played in a regional rock band around here called Sidewinder. My first show ever was opening for them. Audly Freed (Black Crows, Peter Frampton and lots of others) was the guitar player. Both of them are incredible talents and were back then as well. This was maybe 1985? 86? I was in a local rock band called Grinder.

Robert played a B.C. Rich Bich bass that had been customized by Roscoe. His rig (which I got to play through) was a Booogie 400+ and a 2-15 cab.

She is an amazing talent. I’ve only seen her live once and thoroughly enjoyed her show. And yep, she can play bass.

I've come to admire her as a songwriter, bass player and all around rock musician. And yeah, she's easy on the eyes, but I'd have the same admiration either way.

Does she do the whole show on bass normally

She often plays acoustic on soak up the sun & if it makes you happy, plays piano on some songs, give or take half to 2/3 of the show shes playing bass.

Granted this was a while ago. I've seen her thrice, one show Sweet Child was part of the set not sure if she still plays it but that was one of her piano songs. Don't remember her doing it the most recent time but even that was several years ago.

Well for her age, yes, but I saw her close up with very little makeup and eh.

I had a B302F for a while, nice but a little too big...

Guild definitely had a thing for fretless - I wonder when it started? I love mine, it's addictive! I wasn't a huge fan of the pickups, and the opportunity came up to Alembicize it...

Oh, and Sheryl Crow is awesome! I didn't get into the first album even though my guitar player at the time loved it. But I saw her on Conan O'Brien or something doing "If It Makes You Happy" - actually managed to record it on VHS - and I would watch it over and over again, so good, better than the album version in my opinion - wish I could find it...

I knew! I heard her talking about it in an interview around 20 years ago. I already thought she was hot, but after hearing that she played bass, I married the woman...

I first saw her playing bass on one of the late night shows.

This was inspiring to me at the time, because she made it look so effortless, and I hadn't seen any of the singer-songwriters of that particular era playing bass. It seemed to have subsided by then. There was something to the spirit of joy in Sheryl Crow playing bass that night that was easily transferred to others.

So this boosted my confidence as a songwriting bass player. Fortunately for my audience, not to the leather-pants confidence level, but still.
