Wow, that's a lot of progress since my last visit!! Fantastic job Grant! The bass is really coming together nicely. As usual, thanks for posting pics.

im not sure; he sent out the rest of my order earlirer this week which is great!
so at the very least hes getting back on his A game!

k; so all the routing and releif carvings are done, and this body is going thru the final sanding stages, alot of the time is being put into filling the spalt, lil holes and 'less than stable areas' are being treated to flatten and reinforce;

deb wants the upper horn as 'round' as possible; its looking pretty cool, but you could probly imagine the awkwardness if someone saw me sanding it!
the neck has been fretted and at this point sanded to about 100, the final sanding will be after all the fretwork, but before the 'polishing' phase;
they are gold evo wire from lmii; as requested they are guitar sized wire, this will be strung up with light gauge strings, but its still a new endevour for me, so i hope they play as good as they look;

the side markers have been placed as well; i always recomend plastic, i like wood if there going to be huge, but i find for practical use; pearl is very unreliable for visable use in the side markers, even in well lit places some of them seem to disapear,

and de-whiskering the cedar

Grant has done a fantastic job on this very custom bass. The bass is a whopping 6.2 lbs soaking wet. Tone is awesome, custom shape fits me like a glove, it's crazy light, and it looks way better than what I envisioned. I had the pleasure of visiting Grant's shop many times and the opportunity to make minor design modifications as the build progressed. It definitely was a great experience for me and I'm very grateful to Grant for working so hard, doing a wonderful job, and being a great person to work with. Thanks Grant!

How does the 30.5" scale compare to a 32" or 34"? action and sound wise.

Yes, I am chuffed! I think you'd be hard-pressed to notice significant tonal differences between this and a standard scale bass. The SGD pickups and the Audere preamp have great clarity. Action is adjustable but I opted to go with a medium low height action. The biggest difference to me is that string tension is lower in short scales. And, I use ultra-light gauge strings so my strings are downright floppy!
