That's why I asked. I use .90/.30 on two of my basses and string tension is already very low on 34" scale. i can't begin to imagine what a 30.5" does to them :)

I'm exaggerating a bit--the tension isn't really that bad. But I do prefer the strings to have lower tension ... I find I have more control over dynamics and it's a lot easier on my hands/finger joints during long sessions.

daveman50: The extra space compensates for the "floppy" strings. On other basses, I found that strings would sometimes slip during vibratos and such. I asked Grant to leave increase the spacing to remedy that. Lots of little things to accommodate my size, playing style, preferences.

The Grant Bass custom shortscale has simply been outstanding!! I have a Birdsong Custom Cortobass that I haven't touched in months, and that's a testament to the quality, feel, and tone of the Grant Bass build. The SGD pickups and Audere preamp sound damn good together.

Here's a quick little groove. I'm using an Edirol recorder (internal mics) and playing through a fEARFul 15/6/1 cab using a Crown XLS1500 poweramp and a Presonus Eureka Channel Strip. I'm using the Saturation knob on the Presonus to get a bit of toob tone otherwise the signal is unprocessed -- both compression and EQ were bypassed.

I can coax a bit of a fretless tone out of this baby, if I play a certain way.

Grant you made a really fine instrument and I'm forever thankful. :D

At 6.2 lbs, I can play this bass for hours on end, without any pain. The big goals were to have something ultralight, good sounding, and tailor-made to my body/style of play. Grant, you did that in spades. It's a looker too! My wife even said she'd wouldn't mind displaying the bass--maybe securing it on the living room wall. Normally, she wants all my bass stuff hidden away. :)

We have a gig at The NOW Lounge this Saturday. 189 Church Street (Toronto). It's a Halloween gig so it should be fun. If you're planning to come, get there early (before 9:00 PM), last time it was packed!
