Should I get a loan?

This. And this comes from someone that five years ago, was easily over 12k in debt, with creditors calling left and right. At this point, my wife and I have our car and mortgage for debt, and maybe $300 in CC.

If you make a plan of attack, you can take a loan for an instrument. Lots of orchestral players do this all the time.

Everyone knows that's debil music.
;)

If that was a good deal or not.

The answer is: YES.

Musicman Sterling HS basses go for much more than that and I have not been able to find too many locally. I've been eyeballing one for about $1475 which is by far the best deal I've come across. Guitar Centers are hit and miss and when they blow out musicman basses they usually have the best prices.

As far as taking out a loan to get it, man I've bought so many basses and god knows what else on credit cards that conventional wisdom told me not to and paid it all off, no biggie. That's your call.

What if your work says "things are tight and there will be no bonuses this year?" What if your car breaks? What if you find the amp of your dreams for another thousand?

Wait until you have the money.

As someone said earlier "Debt is bad!"

Or it's for something you want or in my case know I can turn a profit on. Or many other things. Sometimes a loan can make perfect sense.

If the OP was buying the bass because he already has a buyer to turn a quick profit, then you have an argument. But a loan for a bass that he intends to keep and is supposedly going to pay off with a bonus that he's expecting to get? Bad idea. Don't need to be Warren Buffet to raise an eyebrow at that.

I don't expect to get it. I know I am getting it, down to the penny, just like all the other 30,000 employees in my company.

It's profit sharing, it's just easier to call it a bonus.

So I know I will get the money. The point of the post, was if this deal was too good to pass up. Somehow that got lost in 6 pages of talk about credit . . .

OH! Well then..Yes,Yes...by all means buy the bass. It's a good deal. You know you only live once :eyebrow:

How many have bought on a credit card, some thing as a loan right? Plus GC has no interset if paid in 6 months.

But my main question for EBMM owners, is this an abnormal price? Or will there be another available in 2 months

I would rather wait.

That's a good deal on a Sterling, but yeah, you'll find another bass similar to that around the same price. Used EBMMs usually go around the $1100 range IME. Don't sink yourself in debt just because you couldn't wait to buy a bass!

If you weren't assuming particulars about his bonus you might have an argument.
;)

A loan for a bass he intends to keep that he can get new at well below the current market and even below the resale value of the item might indeed raise Warren's eyebrow... after all , he's a bassist too.
:D

He's found a NEW* one for the price of a used one. And he's paying for it with his bonus.

*at least that's what I read in the first post.
