Should I return this?

So I got a bass the other day from a music store on reverb. The bass came and everything is great with it except there seems to be a slight gap on one side where the neck meets the body. Here is a pic:

Is this an issue? Should I return this? It doesn’t seem to have any play in the neck, it stays in tune. I tried removing the neck and reattaching it and the gap is still there. The bass plays awesome though. This is a limited edition color and I am not sure I could get another in this color since the store only seemed to have one. Thoughts?

Looks like the corner of the pocket wasn't cut square. Can you tell if the fingerboard is parallel with the body or is the neck tilted slightly? Maybe you can sand down the corner to square it up. Or there may be a special tool for corners.

It does look like maybe the build quality is a touch shoddy, although it probably won't make that much of a difference. What bass is it? Was it expensive?

The main thing is how does it set up and play? That is what makes it a keeper or not.

Yeah - I don't really like the idea of only one side of the neck sitting flush to the surface, and the other side floating ...

You can see that corner of the neck pocket isn’t routed or finished square. You can easily fix that with a wood file if it bothers you enough.

It can be corrected and I recommend you do so. The bass appears to be a keeper and it shouldn't be an expensive fix.

Hard to answer with no other information.

Normal for a $200 bass. Unacceptable on a $600 bass. It's all relative.

i would return it for sure. you didnt pay all that money for a problem. i know you like the color but you can find another one you like without that defect.

Kinda depends how much you paid. If the bass still sets up well. And if it plays well for you. Also... what kinda bass is it for my own curiosity?

I am in the "let it go", ignore it, play it, enjoy it category. It really doesn't seem to affect play-ability. You won't see it from the player perspective. However, if it bothers you, return it.

I'd just fix it and then enjoy it if it really bothered me. I know we live in a day and age where everything is a consumable and easily disposed of, but really, I think people could stand to learn to fix things and be at least somewhat handy.

Price point is important as others have said. Silly question but have you tried (gently) tightening the screws on that side? Like sometimes when I put a neck back on I think I'm done but there's still a gap and I realize I hadn't tightened the screws in properly.

I read through the post and couldn't find anywhere what brand the bass is, but I'm suspecting a MIM or Asian Fender or Squier. Could you clue us in to the brand?

Oh, I'm gonna take a stab at this and say it's this Jackson bass, of which I wanted to buy for the $199.00 just for the maple color neck and throw away the body. I have a feeling Jackson is getting out of this type of neck/head-stock business and I want one before they completely write off the 80's. If I'm wrong, so be it.
