Dear Rich Briere, I am very sorry to have offended you –it was never my intention.
Whilst I have little doubt of the results of a poll on: “who believes a Squier bass to be a Boutique Bass", please believe me I
wasn’t questioning its
monetary or even sentimental value. I was merely expressing my surprise after 14 pages (and the OP having already stated the matter closed on the 5th page), we were STILL speaking about it.
I really do think at the price point of a Squier, occasional blemishes and blips in quality control are to be expected. And, as I suggested in the 3# post, the only way to avoid them is to never buy sight unseen goods or to exchange them within the “return window”.
However, at the boutique price point a similar oversight in QC I believe would be unforgivable and more worthy of a 15 odd page dilemma of keeping or returning the instrument for repair or refund.
The last paragraph in my post was meant solely as a joke, which seems to have badly missed the mark with you, for which I can only again apologise.
With regards to my “hiding behind an alias”, my user name was created 18 years ago –a time where things on Talkbass were much different and dare I say, better and more usefully informative. I am unable to change that user name now but I also find it strange that I would even
want to use my real name on an internet bass guitar chat forum. There are some very strange people on the internet and I don’t think I would necessarily wish to encourage meeting in person all those I have met here virtually.
Again, my deepest apologies to you or anyone I offended with my post and I wish you and indeed all Talkbass users happy holidays and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2022.
PS In writing this the irony is not wasted on me that I am just prolonging this thread. However, we are so invested by now that I am secretly hoping we can rival the 800 page “I am the thread killer” over at Harmony Central from back in the day!
