Should I send it back? Opinions, please!

To HalfMoon/HalfBass I just spent 30 minutes writing you an Apology letter......explaining why I do the things I do.......and it seems to have disappeared.
I was very moved by the Class you showed in your response......If my 30 minute response shows up all will be clear. If it doesn't, I owe YOU an apology....... Many thanks.

Bonus in case it doesn't. I HIGHLY recommend NOT buying from chain stores and also resisting the new MAPP Pricing / Price Fixing thing the M.I manufacturers have somehow managed to make legal. I can assure you that not all dealers BUY at the same price.....but SOME manufacturers have found a way to see that all dealers SELL at the same price.
:)
I also recommend reading comments on a Comp...not a phone. Using a comp allows one to see the entire thread with just a couple of clicks....Using a phone allows one to see the past three comments and previously unread comments are repeated 247 times. :)

Bass-ically Yours,RB

Much Love to Mister and Mrs Kipp. :)

No problem, I guess it's just the limitations of the internet that sometimes lead to these misunderstandings.

I never intentionally mean anyone offense and in the state of things in the world at the moment, it would bring me no joy at all to know I am additionally contributing to anyone's increased suffering.

I completely agree with all you said. If people read more and posted less, there would be a lot less repetition and way more content and information. When even the OP has to explain 200 times he didn't buy it from Sweetwater, the return date has now expired, that he is keeping it, etc. I can't understand why anyone would click to ask or comment upon the same incorrect details ten fold?!

If a thread is too long to read fully, maybe it would be best not to answer it because there's an elevated chance what you are "adding" has already been said many times.

BTW: Even though I probably have over eaten over the Xmas period and now resemble the moon, I'm hoping I don't need to change my name from HalfMANHalfBass! I guess I'll have to get back to you on that in Jaunuary though! :roflmao:

Peace to all. :bassist:

You have FALLEN IN LOVE with this bass and are thinking about returning it because of a small blemish you only found while cleaning it? Are you out of your mind?!! Keep that bass. Love that bass. That blemish is what makes your bass different from any other bass in the universe. People pay extra money to have their brand new basses look stressed like that. Don’t make them look stupider than they already are.

For the love of God, can't we get this thread closed now?

I can only try to imagine how epic this thread could have been had it been a boutique bass...

Just for the record, (and the next 15 pages) I'd personally divorce my wife on the spot if she ever bought me a bass with a mark on it. Seriously, how could she "truly love me" whilst putting me in such a similar position / dilemma? Screw it, I'm just gonna divorce her anyway -I'm finding this mark on the 5th fret business way too upsetting. :crying:

I feel your pain, and yet for some awful reason, am determined to help continue to draw the thread out long past its natural usefulness.

Also, here is a picture of a cat:

Instruments are like no other product, they are just so personal.
I mean, does it feel good, does it sound good, is it a nice weight?....Just sending it back for another one because of a minor blemish may undo all those positives as the replacement whilst visually and mechanically perfect may not feel as nice. If it is a good one that blemish will soon be forgotten about.

Lol....That's a bit more than a small blemish, and people do buy Road worn Basses that have a worn out look and not a huge gouge in the fretboard!

It's not working...did my best
Can someone insert that gif of Michael Jackson eating popcorn?

At this point I am very curious how long this thread will continue :D

PS In writing this the irony is not wasted on me that I am just prolonging this thread. However, we are so invested by now that I am secretly hoping we can rival the 800 page “I am the thread killer” over at Harmony Central from back in the day! :)

My wife got me a wonderful Squier CV 50s P bass for Christmas. Been playing it for a few hours the past 2 days and have fallen in love with it!

Last night I decided to give it a nice cleaning and discover a blem/imperfection on the fretboard. It's not even noticeable from a couple feet away but I can barely feel a very slight "dip" in the wood where it is located. I also discovered a tiny, tiny blemish on the body (this really doesn't bother me) and some minor wear marks on the control plate.

What do you guys think and have you ever seen a "mark" that looks like this on a fretboard?

I have seen a mark similar to the one in the picture. Against my better judgment, I left a bass on the bandstand, sitting on a guitar stand, and took off to eat and shower before the gig. Someone had to have knocked it over doing something but no one ever comes forward when things like this happen in my experience. It doesn’t affect the playability so I just wrote it off.
I’m assuming that this blemish doesn’t affect the playability of your instrument either since you only noticed it while cleaning the bass.
My opinion is just accept it, live with the imperfections. You’ve “fallen in love with it”, and it’s an absolutely wonderful gift from your wife. A gift like that has sentimental value and rightfully so.
Keep it, play the hell out of it, and you’re going to get lots of little dings eventually. It adds character as they say.

I appreciate any suggestions, opinions or advice.

Thanks for sharing. I bonded with it after several hours of playing. I'm keeping it.

Glad you've made up your mind. If you like it that much then you'll play it a lot and it'll eventually get its share of "love taps" anyway, especially if you gig it. You've got your first one out of the way already. And unlike the usual and mundane nicks, this one is more interesting and now identifiable to who knows how many TalkBass members!

For sure! It will be gigged... without a doubt.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it's getting in the way of your playing. make up a good story on how it got there, it may get a good laugh. before too long there will be a lot of scrapes, scuffs, scratches, chips, dents, dings and other imperfections. each one with its own story to remember.

Santa brought me this NEW Bass and when I took it out of the wrapper it appears that it's been, uhm, damaged. As it was a gift from Santa should I sent it back to him and risk getting Coal in my stocking or Spray paint it with Rustoleum and wipe it down with a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich? Thanks. :woot:
Gorgeous! Let's see the front!
