Should I Try A BBE Sonic Maximizer?

Just to chime in from a different perspective, I use an Aphex Exciter in my rig but for different reasons. I find that as my strings age and get duller sounding, if I start to boost the exciter I can get back that clear high end that starts to fade. So basically I use it as a way to lengthen the life of my strings. When I put new strings on I keep the exciter essentially off. And as they start to dull I bring the dial up. I like the clean high of end of new strings and this unit works well. However, I rarely put the effect up past about 9 o'clock. It boosts the high end to an irritating level very fast if you over do it. And I also picked this thing up super cheap. Had it not been so cheap I don't think that the effect would be worth it.

I like slightly dulled strings, so that's not an advantage for me. Nice ingenuity, though. I would never have thought of it!

I use a bbe sonic stomp which is attached to my rack shelf with Velcro. It's after my pedals but before my pre amp in the signal chain. It's not a drastic improvement but i can tell the difference when not using it. It's basically an eq type of gadget that lets me control lows and highs it different frequencies than my pre amp. Its much quieter than a graphic eq and gives you more flexibility than the traditional low, mid, high knobs IMO the cheaper sonic stomp is worth it but i wouldn't pay more for the more expensive a rack mount version. Its i tend to keep the low and high knobs at around 2 o'clock on mine.

Well, after re-EQing my rig, I've definitely got the "cut" I think I want. Gotta test it in the band mix, but I expect it'll sound great. MUCH better clarity and punch, but with less highs, which I didn't think was possible. Shows what I know! Thanks as always, guys! Might pick up an Fdeck Series 3 as protection in the future, though.

Thats what I like to hear, why buy bandaids for an ink mark. Ink marks won't "heal" no matter how many bandaids you use.
