Show me your straps!

A wide black leather Levy w/ swivel attachment for my Neanderthal length arms and to insure the padding is over my shoulder and not laying on my chest where it would have no benefit.

I've got nothing fancy, but all work great. Most of my straps were dirt cheap. From left to right, Strat and LP have Perris 3.5" straps that I got for $12 each. D35 has a Franklin strap, probably the most expensive one I ever bought. Taylor 814 has a Walker and Williams G-13 for around $30. Yamaha bass has the red Perris strap for a few more $ than the black ones. The last two basses on the end have Perris deluxe padded straps. The retail on those were more than I likely would have paid, but I got killer deals on both, but no longer available. Cheap straps just seem to work for me. I don't need fancy- only comfortable.

I've given away at least another 10.

I want to be your friend! :hyper:Aiming for top 10 :smug:

I have regular 3 layer leather straps like this for all my basses. Also gifted one for my friends birthday. They are at least custom made to match with my basses  Reasonably cheap from a local builder, around 20-25$

It’s beautiful!

This is the post that gave me GAS
New Bass Coming, Need New Strap!!

It was $55 so kind of expensive but it’s real suede on the back and I like that the money went to a small business. The rest of my straps are all cheap and mass produced. I felt like this bass deserved better :) Shipping was crazy fast!

Those are some beautiful straps! I just had a look on the website. Wish they made them wider than 2” though. They are works of art!

Here’s one of Gecko’s latest designs. John Jarmuskiewicz (owner and sole employee) is a bass player, by the way.

If I didn’t have that new red monkey strap arriving Friday, I’d be all over the Gecko straps. Those are super nice! But of course I really like the one I ordered as well. I just need more basses for the new straps in the future haha

I have three of John Jarmuskiewicz‘s Gecko Leather Works custom 3” one-piece leather straps cut to the exact length on my Fenders. No adjusters, no hardware. I’ll have two more made when my NS-2 joins my Sadowsky Will Lee, but 2 1/2” wide because both basses are 1 1/2lbs lighter than the Fenders. Truly bespoke straps.

Additionally, John’s standard double layer stitched leather is thick enough that it fits very tightly over standard strap buttons. I can’t even fit a rubber washer over. No need anyway. I dislike strap locks of any kind so that works well for me.

I have a whole bunch of excellent Italia 4” leather straps, and a few equally good Leathergraft Softee straps, also 4” width. I also have a similar Moody strap, which is a beauty. Most have Schaller strap locks fitted.

For me I like a wide, fairly soft but substantial and well made ALL leather strap, in a colour that suits the instrument. That’s it. I’ve used straps of that type ever since my Dad bought me one as a gift to go with my first bass, 45 years ago (and I still own that strap).

I don’t like any strap with a buckle.

My Levi's are all 3.5", and I would never get a strap narrower for a bass. The Levi's I have all showed up fairly stiff: wrap them around a wood fence post or tree, and saw them back and forth (suede side to the wood) until they get butter soft. No need for padding unless you have an exceptionally heavy bass, in my opinion.

As I showed above I agree. I'm a fan of Perris's straps in 3.5". I don't think I give them the fence post treatment, but I work the crap out of them and then usually cut out a small crescent where the inside edge likes to sit on a vein in my neck. It starts off as a big ol piece of plain stiff leather, but by the time I get through with them they have a nice texture and satin sheen and looks like almost like texturized Italian leather. I think I paid $12 each for a bunch of these at the time in black and brown. I also have one in red that didn't need much work.
