This may or may not help .. this is some data I've collected over the years, they're measurements I've taken when I had the chance to .....

**********************************************
RICKENBACKER 4001-4003:

Bridge to Bridge pickup = 4.25" roughly observed.
Bridge to Neck pickup = 8.25" roughly observed.

33.25" scale - divisions:
1-oct = 16.625"
2-oct = 8.3125"
3-oct = 4.15625"
4-oct = 2.078125"
**********************************************
P-BASS:

Bridge to E/A pickup = 6.75"
Bridge to D/G pickup = 5.25"
(Average = 6.00" - roughly splitting 2nd and 3rd octave)

34" scale - divisions:
1-oct = 17.00"
2-oct = 8.5"
3-oct = 4.25"
4-oct = 2.125"

J-BASS:

Bridge to Bridge pickup = 2.5"
Bridge to Neck pickup = 6.125" - same as Pbass.

34" scale - divisions:
1-oct = 17.00"
2-oct = 8.5"
3-oct = 4.25"
4-oct = 2.125"

CORT A4:

Bridge to Bridge pickup = 2.125" (at centerline) same as J-bass bridge pickup.
Bridge to Neck pickup = 5.25" (at centerline) same as P-bass treble pickup (D/G strings)

34" scale - divisions:
1-oct = 17.00"
2-oct = 8.5"
3-oct = 4.25"
4-oct = 2.125"

MUSIC MAN STINGRAY:
Bridge to pickup = 4.25" (same as Ric bridge pickup)

Note that the P-bass is the 4-string. So this may be of no use to you. I figure it beats not trying at all, so I'm throwing this out there just in the odd chance it may help you.

No problem at all. I should have measured these from the nut or F12 (fret #12) but, it is what it is. It's just some data I've collected over time for no other reason than I thought it might be helpful some day.

I know that it doesn't really apply to your 5 string, but I thought you might be able to make use of it in some manner of fashion.

Great clips! I've been waiting for these clips to decide if I should three way my L2500 tribby. I was particulary interested in the difference between the middle (was "neck" in original) and the new "neck" pickup way up at the neck.

The difference is subtle. But to me there seems to be a slight deepness to the "neck" tone that the middle pickup only partially gets. I know on my 3 pickup Modulus I do prefer the bridge-neck combo over the bridge-middle combo even though the differences are subtle.

I think this is convincing me to do it!

Thanks! That one came thru loud and clear in the recording. The other differences are more audible in real life than in the recording. I think my son's little Zoom recorder (probably any recorder) has its limitations in the bass frequency range. Depends a lot on what you play it back through also.

You are right and the tone differences are more pronounced in real life vs the recording. My favorite position is to use the two far outer coils. It gives a jazz tone but a little bit deeper. That is my most frequent coil selection on my Stingray HH too.

Thanks! I actually built a 2 band EQ that's a copy of the old 70's StingRay's. I bought the PCB on here from UncleFluffy. There's a thread in the bazaar section I believe.

I will also include a push pull on the volume control that will get me some series/parallel options. Someone on here mentioned it when i first described my plan and I didn't feel like doing it at the time, but I decided to just go for broke on this one.

I'll have normal pickup selector switch functions in parallel when the switch is down, and then with the switch up I'll have either middle/neck or middle/bridge in series OR middle in series with bridge and neck in parallel.

I got the pickup selectors wired today and hopefully will have the series/parallel, volume tone and active passive bypass switch wired tomorrow.

Then I just have to wire in the preamp. I hope to have it all done in the next week or two.
