Anything new in this pseudo-club?

I recently did some work on my Mustang but its only one pickup so I can't really post it here. Was thinkin about adding a Joe Barden J pickup or two to it though. It is posted on my website on the prototypes page if anyone wants to check it out.

Next may be to add a 4th pickup to my Jazz. Still pondering the control setup though so I have not taken it apart yet.

Well I'm still not done but I couldn't help but put it together and give it a go before I add the preamp.

It sounds very cool as is! I'm really surprised of how much I like the neck pickup, I'm using it more than I thought I would.

Right now it's passive, pickup selector for each pickup, volume that's push pull to give me a series mode, and master tone.

The preamp I'm adding is a 2 band which I'm a little concerned about as this bass is much more scooped sounding than I had anticipated when more than one pickup is being used.

I'm hoping to crack it open again tomorrow and wire up the pre.

Dude that's awesome. Jags are begging for mods.

Are you sure the pickups aren't out of phase? I found the jag pickups to have plenty of mids.

Thanks, it's been a lot of work getting it to this point!

The pickups are not out of phase, it sounds big, fat, and loud as heck in every position.

These are Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups, which are inherently a little scooped by nature, so that coupled with my lack of volume/blend controls and the phase cancellation you get when you add pickups and thats what I get I guess.

It could also be due to the strings, which I literally just dug out of my used string drawer lol.

I'm going to just stick with the plan for now and see how it all comes together. The tone is very usable as is, it isn't a super smiley face EQ scoop, just a little bit more of that hollowness you get with a Jazz bass run full on.

She's lookin sharp! How would you describe the tone of the two outermost coils? It's one of my favorite sounds.

I unfortunately did not have the chance to get the preamp in it yet, but I messed around with it through my rig this weekend, and she's definitely a unique beast. There are some cool tones in it for sure.

The two outermost coils sound pretty cool in parallel. Describing tones is always weird for me, but it's got kind of a "boxy" vibe to it. It almost sounds like one of those Gibsons with the mudbucker at the neck and the mini humbucker at the bridge. In series the tone is similar just much more ballsy and authoritative.

I have to say that I really enjoy the tone of each pickup solo'd in the parallel mode. The neck pickup is very similar to the one on my Ric, the Middle pickup does an extremely good P-bass interpretation. The Bridge pickup surprised me the most, it sounds very thick and full and I usually HATE the solo'd jazz bridge pickup. Yes I know, it worked great for Jaco, but I don't like it for myself lol.

Whenever I use more that 1 pickup, I find that it sounds best in the series mode, so I'm glad I went with that mod.

This is a Marco Bass with 2 single coils and 1 humbucker. This is a new model and I attached a Korg Pandora Box; on the side of the bass there are two output jacks and one has a clean pickup sound, and the other is hooked into the Pandora Box. Both of these can be used simultaneously or separately. I have more pictures on my Facebook page

Believe it or not I drove out to Marco's yesterday and had a chance to play it. It's pretty unreal how versatile it is. The 2 know are master volume and tone. The 3 switches control the pickups. The single coil pickups are on off switches and the neck pickup is humbucking-off-single. Their are a hole lot of tones you can get from it just from the pickup combos. From a gritty pickin Rick tone to music man to fender jazz or thumb-ish tones with the bridge pickup being so tucked away near the bridge. It's not your modern bass but pulls off all the classic tones and seems like it would cut through anything you played.

When you plug the Korg Pandora in you really get a lot of new functionality. Probably my favorite part is being able to plug your studio headphones in and play with a drum track. It's a great practice tool. Not to mention you have hundreds of modeling and effects to choose from. This is definitely the most versatile bass I have played. It would make a perfect workhorse jack of all trades type of bass.

(ilikebass7) .... I am intrigued by the neck pickup's location in combination with either of the others.

As for the Korg ... I am SOLD SOLD SOLD on digital processing these days. I have been using an Alesis DEQ830 (an EIGHT CHANNEL 31 band ~graphic~ EQ with eight individual inputs and eight individual outputs, 100 programmable curves and 100 programmable combinations, as well as a built in frequency analyzer .. all in 1U of rack space). Years ago I would have looked at digital processing through a squinky eye (and a skeptical ear). But things have changed.

I had 2 Pandoras ... the red one and the blue one. I found them too difficult and fiddly to program ... BACK THEN. Had I more time on my hands at the time I probably would have found a ton a goodness in them.

As it stands I will probably end up getting a 2nd Alesis EQ, as a spare/backup. I may even get one or two analogue 31 banders. I've discovered exactly what it takes to produce the sounds I like, and it takes 2 EQs in series to pull it off.

I'm babbling again. Sorry.
