Mitch, How does the different ash sound? Can you perceive any difference between the 34" and 34.5"?

Hi Dave,

To me there is a slight difference in the two ashes. Northern has a bit more "filled in" lower mid...maybe not as zingy and open in the high end....slightly compressed compared to the average swamp ash bass..but this also has a one piece neck and body so the compression was prob minimized. Its a very nice balance.

I have very small hands so yes I can perceive a difference with the 34". Just a hair, but for hands like mine its prob a more of a difference than for the normal player.

Dave, thanks for the info on the strings. That is what I use exclusively on my BN5. I lucked out at the last NAMM show and was able to pick up 3 sets from George there at the show.

The reason I asked is even though the seem to work the best with the F Bass I do find them a bit rough and was thinking that the might be a bit aggressive on the ebony of the fingerboard.

WOW, those last 2 basses (the fretless 'orange' one and the black one) are just gorgeous. I need to get mine out and play it...my F Bass is one of the most beautiful instruments I own, and I've got 10 Gibso and Fender Custom Shop guitars for comparison.

Miko, thanks for posting that up

I find the regular gauged super steps on AC/BNFs better, especially the G string.
Mainly becos its thicker and it gives a more balanced thickness across the strings. The sound is also warmer and rounder.

i saw your AC5. Looks like a new one. You like the bigger neck?

I had to shim my AC5 also, (My G string was a bit too low, frettin out) it sounds like a bigger deal than it really is. I did Baba's also.

The roudwounds do leave surface scratches on the ebony fb, but oh well, it sounds too good to worry about it.

I wouldn't quite call that "adjustable" Knowing me I'd file a little too low then have to stick baseball cards under there to get to the right height again.

It's a brand of bass (unlike a P bass or a J bass)- the "F" in F bass stands for Furlanetto, the builder of the basses.
