It is an awesome P-bass. I must say that I replaced the pickups for Fender 60s and I love it. Strings are Labella flats 43-104 ("Sean Hurleyish"). I really love it. It is heavy, but very well balanced, really comfortable to play.

They do really nice 3 tone sunbursts. The one on your JB-2 is especially gorgeous!
It’s less “banded” and more blended than mine.
Is it black on the back and sides like mine?

I think they can be ass aggressive or calm as you want.
The blend on my Laklands works really well. Much more than 1/8 inch. Not sure what they do but it works. I pretty much never run it centered.
Yup, mine is also fully black on the sides and back. As opposed to, say my Pro II Precision that is a burst on the front and back. Which is theory, I prefer. But in practice, I'm never looking at the back of my bass and neither is anyone else, so... LOL

Here's my L-2500. I'm pretty sure I got it around 03 or 04? My first real Big Boy Bass! Always been a workhorse and always ready to play when I need it. Probably the most traditional bass I own and I'm glad to have it in the arsenal.
I have a friend who was at his company's main office about ten years ago. It's just a couple miles from G&L, and he was wanting a Will Ray bridge pickup for his Comanche, so he stopped in to see if he could buy one. Dave gave him a tour of the facility and had him sit on Leo's stool at Leo's desk and took a picture of him. He still treasures that pic to this day. Then he gave him the Will Ray pickup for free. Yes, by all accounts, they were a wonderful group of folks, and Dave seems like an OK guy, maybe just not a very good businessman. (Unlike me...I'm both a poor businessman and an a**h***.

I always love my M-2500, but it's much more impressive with a band than playing at home. None of the many other basses I've played live has generated so many compliments for its tone.
My Sandberg generates compliments and questions, but more for its looks and because folks are curious about it. But nobody says, "Man, I need to get one of those!" like one bassist said about the mighty M after my band's set, or "Why don't you play this thing all the time?" like one drummer asked after I rocked the M for the first time with that band. For tone and power, the M is in another league.
Was lucky enough to buy an m-2500 from a talk bass member in the past week. I'll probably be looking for another one when $$$ reserves are replenished.
Back when I first got acquainted with G&L, I had an L-2500. I decided I wanted a 4-string G&L and saw a stunningly beautiful Tribute M-2000 at a price I could afford. I bought it and was immediately disappointed with its tone. That was entirely my fault. I was expecting it to sound just like my L-2500 but with the benefits that a blend control and a 3-band active preamp gives. In other words, I was disappointed that it had a tone all its own, so I sold it after playing a gig with it only once. That's my bad. That's one I wish I could get back. I even contacted the buyer to ask if he might be interested in selling it back to me. I received no response.
At one point, having the back "burst" instead of black was a upgrade option. I have it on my L2000.
March '97: the neck has the micro-tilt attachment,... with a neck plate, and a 4+1 headstock too, I guess...

Oh yeah, I bought it used... Took me until yesterday to pop the neck to see when it was built.
Yeah after one rehearsal, I like my m-2500 better than my l-2500's. I'm just more of a fan of the traditional active pre amp, but I might not stick with the m-series preamp.
