I can't believe I did this but I had some 1/4 inch thick figured maple and I had to glue a section at the bottom near the control holes because the maple wasn't big enough. Cut it to the shape of a P guard. Penciled the guard shape to the body and then hand routed a 1/4 deep cavity, pressed and glued the maple and sanded it flush.

Once again, this build was a big gamble and somehow I was lucky it all worked out.

(I'm 74 now and was about 48 when I made this. I could never do this again!!!!!!!! Nor would I even ever want to try!)

- Pickguard: Fender '62RI
- Pickup: Fender Vintera II '60
- Covers: Fender ‘Pure Vintage’ (I just removed them for the photo-opp)
- Bridge: Fender ‘Pure Vintage’
- Wiring: Homemade with CTS, clothwire, Orangedrop,...


Very good bass… but I’m not feeling it. Plays very well, but there’s something about the way it sounds. I know the pickup is amazing (I chose it after playing a handful of Vintera 60’s, as they sound really good in there). It’s a twangfest on rounds, clanky strung with 17 year old Jamerson flats. Maybe I’m a rosewood guy, and need to replace the neck.

I assembled this one a few decades ago.

Started with a pair of Q-Tuners and a Warmoth fretless neck that I'd installed on my '64 P before it became Kollectable.

Body built to my specs from Guitar Mill

I rattlecanned the finish with Deft nitro over dye.

At first it was passive, now it sports a nice Underhill preamp.

It has a few extra holes here and there from experimenting.

It's had a few different necks and now is back to the original Warmoth P neck and strung BEAD

Probably gonna sell or part out soon, my hands are too trashed to play full scale much anymore.

As there are many versions of Fiesta red - this would be the one I prefer. (faded Fiesta?) Almost Coral. :thumbsup:

Warmoth J neck with frets but no dot markers. Aero pickups. Schaller tuners. Volume Blend & Tone controls.

I guess I had to prove to myself that I could do this, even though it was a big, big gamble.

8 1/2 lbs with the cover. Really good bass, basically a homemade version of a Fender Closet Clean 58 P Bass
