Seeing all these beautiful basses gave me MB-2 GAS, which could only be tamed by putting up pics of my own.
Here is my 2008 Mouse 30:
Koa Top and Headstock
F-hole
Integrated Thumbrest
2 Band EQ
I don't know if I could be happier with this bass. If only I could play it!!!

It is alder, and my Mouse is the only fretted Rob Allen I've played. I've never played a Deep 5, but my Mouse and my old ash MB2 sound VERY similar. So, to me, at least between the Mouse and the MB2, the primary decision would be what scale length you prefer... do you want the mini sort of 'guitar sized' instrument, or a more traditional feeling bass guitar type form factor. I do feel the Mouse, with that short scale and lower string tension, does 'bloom' a little more, but it is subtle, and in a mix.. forget about it.. the MB2 or Mouse would sound IMO and IME 95% the same.

Bastogne walnut over alder, walnut neck, Macassar ebony board & bridge. Rob had some of the top wood left over, which was used for the thumb rest. I love having it, but this really is my "upright" (as close as I'll get, anyway) bass, and as such I spend most of my plucking time where the neck and body meet.

FWIW, I just received the final mix from a (very) trad jazz session I did back in January. It was cool to record this bass, even though going direct seems to lose a fair amount of the upright mojo it offers live.

That's a great looking piece of walnut - and some SWEET soundclips! I actually think there's a great deal of "wood" in that tone, even though you went straight to the board. And really nice playing!!! Thanks for sharing those!

I was in Club Bass last Saturday and played these three basses they had in stock:

I'm leaning towards the MB2-5 some time in the future and found that the action was quite high on all three basses. Is this the typical setup for a RA? Have any of you had the action lowered and if so, how is it done? I'm used to the action being quite low on my current fretless and it was one question I forgot to ask when I was at the store.

I haven't played one - mine is "in transit" but I believe that a little higher action allows for more of an "upright" playing style - at least for me - and that's what I'm going for with this bass.

Glad you enjoy them. I'm both happy and surprised that the integrated thumb rest caught on.

Now that Rob has shown off the 6er, here it is! Since Rob was very busy with builds, I agreed to keep things somewhat under wraps.
