I know that feeling. When my MB2 arrived it did so in the middle of a furious period of work followed by a much resented overseas vacation. Don't think the wife quite understood...

Yup. Sure they sound amazing, although I'll add they're capable of much more than sounding like an upright.
Sound aside, my Rob Allens were my go to basses because they were comfortable as heck! They're also easy on the eyes!
Sorry to see you sell yours. I had a hard time when I was considering parting with mine. Right now it's staying in my arsenal, probably going to be my main bass for the Rush tribute band. Our first gig back from our, er, hiatus of about 5 years is in July.
Although your Deep 4 + mag gave me an idea which I e-mailed Rob about.
As much as I like my RAs, I've been playing my Precisions much more. Now that my '76 once maple necked fretless has the '78 rosewood fretless neck on it, I haven't really touched the Deep 4.
There's also a part of me that says to sell the Deep 4 and get an Azola Bambino.
Keep, sell ... do nothing. Who knows.
Based on a lot of input here from TB, I got a TC Classic 450 and 2 x10 cabinet. While I love the AI+Bergantino combination, the TC is is a beautiful compliment. Compressor is very musical and the "tube" sound really warms up.
Still playing with the high-freq roll off on the cabinet.

I love these Rob Allen basses! I've been looking at them a lot recently... One of these days I will take the plunge and go for a Mouse.
I have to say - the Berg IP112 and the Deep 4 were not friends. I couldn't get a great sound from that combo no matter what pre I used (or even if I took the out from the Deep). The Deep 4 sounds great through my Ampeg rigs as well as my Polytone. Go figure.
I had to eq the RA fairly heavily with the TC to get a sound that I liked. With the LMTube I just cut the bass and call it good. Generally I'm using the AE112, which has plenty of bottom end. With the AE210 the RA cuts a bit more.
I'm likely going to order a fretted Mouse when I pick up the Deep5. I'm intrigued by going 5 string E-B (ala guitar tuning) but will probably just stick with a stock 4-string as I don't know that I want to plunk down the extra cash for a custom. The plan is to have the Mouse as my only 4-string, and it'll be the "P-bass" for some gigs. I'd love to buy the solid 4 but just a little out of reach at the moment.

Funny, but for me I didn't have to eq the TC much at all. I like the LM too. The Eden Traveler was good. The Phil Jones range are awesome. The classic Ampeg B15 sounds beautiful with RA's.
A paired stack of Accugroove Tri110s was as close to "direct into the board" as I've gotten.
The problem I found was that with the AE112 the low mid presence of the TC was just overwhelming the attack. I would end up cutting the lows and dialing up the mids and upper mids along with some highs. With the LMTube it was just one bass tweak and I could get close to the TC vibe with the VLE. With the 210 cab it was less of an issue, but most of my RA gigs are paired with the 112.
+1 on the B15. It's the best match I've found. I didn't try a RA through it, but last summer I was in NYC at Sam Ash and tried a Phil Jones Bass Suitcase. I'm a 15" speaker guy, but I was impressed. They were blowing it out for $600.
Makes me curious to try a Cub ...
The Briefcase is cool too and the BassBuddy great as a top quality practise amp. Pure and simple - just like the RA's.
the wait is over - now just need to get done with work so I can go home and get to know her better. Very crisp note attack during my brief demo of it. Low action, very fast. And the gorgeous part goes without saying (except I just did). Apologies for the p&s pics - some better ones when I get some decent light. Pics don't do it justice per usual with Rob's work

Very nice. You should use the EQ to cut the treb and crank the bass. Not that I'm telling you what to do, but I think you might like the result.
I might destroy my apartment building if I did that.
Actually I was talking with Rob about the eq. I said I could see messing with the treble, but never would think about adding any bass. If anything I cut bass so that I emphasize the mids a bit more.
I A/B'd this with my MB-2. Different string age, but the Deep 5 has more bark to it. I have to get used to different ergonomics due to the depth of the body and the strap needs to be a fair amount longer due to the strap button placement. You also don't have nearly the access to higher positions on the neck with the Deep 5. What is interesting is that I defaulted to old upright technique of putting my left thumb along side the fretboard and fretting the notes with the fingers. I also find that I prefer playing it seated. I used to only play seated, but lately have been standing more due to having to sing in one of my bands.
