Used? Be interested to see it. Those don't show up very often used - for good reason.

Yes, I just picked it up yesterday. It was built for and owned by Hugh McDonald originally but I actually got it through someone here on TB (and in NY -- which is awfully convenient!)

I'll get some pics later this weekend. The Koa is amazing with lots of beautiful flaming throughout.

I spent some time this morning getting the set-up perfect -- and now I'm really digging it. Really beautiful craftsmanship by Rob.

Good stuff!

typical sick RA top. Rob finds some amazing pieces of wood.

I think you'll dig that a lot. Just got back from a jazz gig today where I played mostly the Deep5. We were outdoors and I had to roll off the treble a bit at the bass - one great feature of a D5. The thing killed. Hopefully will have some video of that as I have to see what my g/f shot.

They are extremely fun basses. And more versatile than you might think.

It actually looks at home in both settings. Great looking bass.

I can't wait to try mine at a show. I have a two hour pop gig next weekend. I may bring it out but I'll likely bring my Sadowsky too as they're are a few slap tunes.

For those that are so inclined, this is a RA-fest collection of videos. A few have some nasty audio (bad soundguy at the IDC gig) but all RA, all the time except for one vid with a Lull. The most recent have the bass *plenty* loud, so no trouble hearing what a Deep5 sounds like, at least in my hands. A few gaffs here and there - first gig for this lineup (the nostatic quartet ones).

Looks like my new Deep 4 will be built in January.

I'm thinking of putting Galli G77s on it. I saw one or two posts which said they were good on RAs, but has anyone else tried them?

i tried them once about 2 years ago. Interesting strings....i recall they didn't have the singing sustain of the labella tapes but I've been thinking of giving them a second try.

Galli strings are hard to get in the USA.

I don't use the LaBella strings at all on my Deep 4. Never have. It's always been the Rotosound RS88s for me.

How were they "interesting"?

interesting in that they were quite different vs. labellas and rotos I've used before. amazing how different strings can be despite being so similar in construction.
