^ Thanks Joe. I remember reading your posts about tonal changes... but didn't recall changes in sustain or other changes in the note envelope. I do recall gentler finger attack was needed.

I also have a Takamine B10 that really suits the La Bella Tapewounds better than other strings (TI too low tension/ thin sounding, Chrome 45's too stiff/ BG-like). Very 5/8 DB with gut strings.

I'm wanting a different tonal character from the Mouse.... 4/4 with steels hopefully. With my set up of Mesa WA & TC RS210, more thump/ less sustain and a different mid character would be the ideal contrast.

- I know using thumb/ palm muting helps but isn't great ergonomics and IMO gets away from the tonal 'sweet spot' of the instrument (DB hook).
- left hand muting is too cumbersome to use constantly.

Any other suggestions to reduce sustain (for a more DB-like envelope)??

Maybe a little more relief in the neck will reduce the sustain. You should probably contact Rob Allen and ask his advice.

Guys, I want to report that I find my sound with my Deep 5 by using an Epifani UL501 and a Baer ML112.

I tryed before Markbass and Puma head.
The Epifani bring just the sound I was looking for, kind of both raw and hi-fi, open and fat.

That is a "gourmet" bass rig. ..For adults. Excellent.

I just found mine with the Aguilar TH500 and Acme Low B 210. It's incredible with my Deep 4.

Amazing bass! Cool on the rig also. That would seem to be a nice 'yin yang' with the fat, creamy, smooth 501, and the tight, bright, punchy ML112. I be that cranks nicely! Congrats!
