Merry Christmas, Rob Allen fans! Here are photos of my dream MB-2, which Rob made for me earlier this year. Enjoy.

That is lovely Ted - congratulations! Is Rob making drop tops as a regular thing now? I miss mine, I'd like to get another.

I meant to say "earlier this year"... I've corrected the post.
The fingerboard is some ancient rosewood that Rob had in his collection. The top is amazing and gets a lot of comments. The sound seems brighter to me compared to other MB-2s, and has amazing fretless tone even on the lowest notes. It's almost magical to me. I use the bass, mainly when working with acoustic guitar players, and it sounds absolutely wonderful in that setting.
I asked Rob to do the drop top for me, Brad. It's an extra, but he's glad to do it. The fingerboard end is another extra, but I think it adds a very nice touch. I'll bring by one of these days so you can check it out in person.

Strings are a bit dull. I remember when I first got my Deep Mouse. With new tapes the notes fly off the board. I am so amazed how fantastic a bass can sound with 6 year old strings though. Nice to have a bass with relative low maintenance, unlike my Laklands which desire bright, zingy strings more than thrice yearly!

I emailed Rob and he said the trim pot serves no purpose on my bass. The circuit is designed for use with two pups and it is a volume trim for the second pup.
I also asked about doing a Deep 5 with a high C except with a body depth of an MB2. He said he has done them before. If anyone has played one I would love to hear about it.
It's in my paws. It has a fair amount of road wear from its original owner (must have ridden it real hard) but sounds remarkable. It has an old Armstrong mag wired directly.

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the electronics in my MB-2?
I want to re-connect the trim pot to the Fishman preamp and need to know the wiring connections and what the capacitor [?] rating is?
Also, what is the ohm rating for the volume pot?
I am adding a mag pup which will be blended with the piezo and this work will be completed in the next few weeks. I will post pics and results !!
