The only reason I ask, is because the bass has quite a long sustain as
it is, and I'm not certain the sound would benefit from more sustain,
especially if you are going for an upright style tone. You may find
that you need you dampen the notes actually, that has been my
experience. Properly done, a bolt on neck can give exceptional sustain
and punch (more than a glued in neck for example which has a softer
attack in my experience). As for a neck through design, I have never
made this style, so I'm not qualified to speak about it from any
experience.....but my guess is that with a piezo pickup, it may be too
bright to have the neck (which must be very rigid) connect with the
bridge. The concept of my designs are a very rigid neck, combined with
a softer/lighter body, this is key to making the piezo sound right.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts....

Bad cell phone pic from big band rehearsal on Tuesday, but I don't think I ever posted the setup of the Deep 4 I've had for a few years with the split electronics. Rob did a really good job with this bass. It's been my main bass pretty much since I got it a few years back.

It really does sound great through the PJB Double Four (you can kinda see it in the picture). Loading in and out is a breeze with this setup. No complaints at all.

My original idea was blended piezo/mag with a control for the blend, but Rob talked me out of it (he's always right). The pickup is not as hot as the one in my S4 (thankfully!). The best part: if I'm using the Piezo and for whatever reason the battery dies, I can switch to the mag.

I'm not much of a handyman, but I finally got around to cleaning up the neck of my Mouse (000 steel wool + minwax poly as recommended by Rob). Plus I applied a couple of coats of carnuba (spelling?) wax to the body and installed a fresh set of strings. Wow! What a difference this makes! It plays like a brand new bass. A little bit of maintenance goes a long ways.

The hot signal from the Bart pre goes to a second input on the original Fishman pre for the piezo. Stereo out. Piezo pickup tip, mag pickup ring.

So I needed a special custom switch box and Brian [Saturnworks] made the perfect one:

Stereo in. Both signals summed to mono out. Buffered signals with two separate switches. I can select each one individually or both perfectly blended.

I could have gone to the Fishman power chip preamp and the could have had a blend knob inside. Then no need for a box. But I didn't so, this works great.

Amazing sound. OMG ! To be able to blend the two is great. The piezo sound is the real deal by itself of course. But to be able to blend in a little mag tightens up the sound a bit in a very good way. Clips hopefully soon.........
