I actully LIKE the Pup Cover as a ThubmRest. I place the thumb on the end of the neck, A La Geezer Butler as well. Give s a Nice Percusive, almost Slap attack.

75 P with a 72 body. Ashtrays and pickguard not original. Everything else is including thumbrest!

Especially not the bridge one. First, it's got the foam mute in it. Second, I get a lot of tonal variation by playing anywhere on the string from the saddles to the end of the fingerboard. It's a P bass- that means it's got one knob to make it less loud, and one to cut the highs. I run the controls wide open (I even had complete by-pass for a while in it) and control the sound with my hands.

I keep my 'tray on the bridge of my 50's Precision (post a pic soon). Aesthetic pretty much. I pluck closer to the bridge and having it there does not inhibit any tecnique I may use. Same can't be said for the pup cover or thumbrest though!

Oh come on John! Pop off that foam piece!
I took the one off my '75 P YEARS ago, it's in a baggie hiding somewhere, I wish I could find it!

I do play back by the bridge at times, for me, never felt the need to go past the bridge cover though.

Nah, I just put some more foam in there last night! The original foam deteriorated and crumbled off. If I ever want that exact sound I'll but the cover back on.
