(remember when 3 MP was great detail for a camera? Not so much when they put it in a phone.)

Front to back: 1985 Yamaha BB300
2010 Ibanez SR300
2010 Ibanex SGR200 Gio

My 89' Yamaha BB5000 Bought new in 1990. I took these pics last summer after I had dissassembled everything, cleaned and buffed out the body, cleaned all the hardware, dressed the frets and set it up. Except for a few nicks here and there looks as good as it did when I bought it 21 years ago.

how does that yamaha sound with the double splits?

Well, I liked it... fairly big and round without too much of either extreme treble or bass... rather punchy in the low mids. They're active EMGs. Soundmen told me it was perfect for direct-to-board, and one recording engineer chose to record me that way.

I used to play it through [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] in a rock and roll band and those guys thought it was the most awesome bass sound ever. I always kept both full on and the tone about 3/4-full on.

At the time I installed them I thought I was being clever because I hadn't seen any basses with double splits. Or it might have had something to do with my ex-wife's brief infatuation with Tetris. Dunno.

What a beauty BB5000, mine is an 86 but has a few more dings. I need lessons on picture taking...those are some great shots.

Thanks. To take these pics I hung up this old piece of carpet I had on the garage door, and got as much light in there as I could. Really, I had living room lamps, desk lamps, you name it. Used my wife's older digital camera. It's nothing special, about a 5 year old sony. I was quite surprised with the results myself.:)

NICE STAND!

Seriously.. been looking for one that will hold mine. Do you recall the make/model? Sick of having to put it back in the case every time I need to set it down for a second.

Yeah, it's a great stand... I have a few, and was quite pleased that it works so well with the Steinberger (which I just got last week) It's a Hercules GS402B

Man, I really dig the black Yamaha BB series (obviously, having the BB415). I got mine less than a year ago used in trade from a fellow TB'er. I had one a long time ago and I can't imagine ever parting with this one now. It has the most tonal variety of any bass I've ever owned (including actives, this being a passive bass). Mine had the switch swapped out for a tone control with the others being volume controls, one for each pickup.

Always dig seeing more pics of Yammies.

I've got a couple, but one has a maple neck and the other a white scratchplate, so I dunno if they qualify...

* 2003 Fender Standard Precision Bass Fretless - Fitted with custom Warmoth neck and Gotoh 201 bridge, strung with R. Cocco .045-.130 Nickel Roundwounds. I picked it up for $100 on CraigsList with an original rosewood fretted neck. I have a set of Seymour PJs in a box, waiting for me to get around to doing a "Tony Franklin mod", but there's an ongoing ground-up build in my shop ahead of it. I'm hoping to get them installed by summer.

* 1980 Rickenbacker 4001 - Fitted with Hipshot Ric bridge, strung with R. Cocco .045-.105 Stainless Steel Roundwounds. Purchased brand new with money from mowing lawns and shoveling driveways. My dad took me down to Biasco Music on Belmont and Central on Chicago's north side when I was 14 to get it.
