Is that pre-CBS?The '66 Precisions didn't have lollipop tuners. My February '66, top side:
CBS (boo hiss) bought Fender in early '65, but mine appears to be built from old parts as, I'm sure, most were for some time. The pickup cover is from a '72, but I have acquired a '66 cover since. The bass has been refinished; it was stripped when I bought it in 1970 for $180.
Just picked up a 2000 black flake Squire Precision Special. First thing I did was order a red tort pickguard. Which I'm assuming won't fit properly. But hey, for $150, I'll dril some new screw holes.
Plays and sounds great too! Love the P pickup and the jazz neck. The extra J pickup is a nice bonus I suppose, but don't use it much.
I'll post pics when thepickguard comes in.

I don't have a black and tort bass myself, but I played keyboards in a band in high school where all three guitarists had this combination. A strat, a tele and a J bass, all black and tort. It looked pretty nice.

That is a stunningly beautiful bass, and yeah I can imagine CBS had lots of parts to use before 'their ' parts came through. A very interesting transitional instrument. Cool.

Cool new numbers, what type of Yamaha is that, I bet it's a slap-bass machine?! I'm looking forward to a better look at that MM, I thought it was a G&L at first glance. And $200 (£120) for a MIM Precision?!

I decided to swap out the necks on my 2 fretted basses. I think the maple looks great on the black & tort.
What do you think?
Yup! Diggin the contrast of the maple neck on a black body. And the rosewood on the burst is a classic look. NICE!

My Fender Reggie Hamilton CS5 - love this bass. Got it 2nd hand and it had already had a tort guard put on it rather than the standard one.
Update - removed the stock Fender-style bridge from my Spector Coda 4 and installed a Babicz FCH-4. So far I love it!
