FCS? I'll give the person who did that an A for effort, and a B for creative intent. It's not believable as something that would have been 'player worn', but it looks like they made some aesthetic decisions as they were 'distressing' it, creating a unique "look". Not something I would personally be drawn to, but someone likes it. FTR, (and some may already know this) the over-painting of already finished bodies at Fender back in the '60s was not very common. It happened when a finish had flaws or they needed a different colour asap, but was a very rare occurrence. At least as far as I've read. It's understandable why it's become such a style/look because it's multi-dimensional.

Okay ... apparently not Fender Custom Shop. I thought it was, because of the neck plate. Here’s the info in the description.

Well I haven't been on fire yet so I'm doing just a hair better than the crispy cherry, all kidding aside I've been around mostly doing ok, just not posting a whole lot.

Just checked out your restoration thread on it and subbed. I've restored a couple close to that level of er... distress, but that neck would have scared me away. Good luck on getting it straightened out - looks like you're the right road so far.

before: '67 WEM/Watkins Rapier - body cracked in two lengthwise & DIY glued back together. Necked glued into the neck pocket. Most everything missing - none original bridge and wonky neck. (but original ashtray!)

before: '68 (Dano) Silvertone 1443 Hornet - DIY hacked finish, cracked neck, very wonky neck, missing bridge.

after: a playable bass with my own 'relic'd' finish.

Body beveled/hs sculpted (from the factory?) unlike Hornets I've seen pics of. I own another one and it's different/not as sculpted.

It must be from the factory as it's well done - looks pro.

Never seen another Hornet with this sort of sculpting... possible done by a DIY'r but not the same tweaker who did the white gloppy finish. Clone Silvertone badge bigger than the original but close enough.

Hornet hs on the right is more squared-off like a Fender. Body & neck made of poplar.

Thanks as always for expanding the vocabulary here - this example reminded me about traces of removed stickers as a relic technique. Something I will have to incorporate in a future relic finish.

Speaking about "distressed"... here's a restoration I'm doing on Pacifica's 100+yr old roadhouse (right off HW1) - '40s vintage lettering was buried under a thick surface of elastomeric.

Covid inspired "Beer Garden" (ex-parking area). Now we're back indoors but the outside stage is used for live music when it's not foggy and damp! (like last Sunday) Band is A Talent for Mischief - original sorta' Americana music. Mike Watt will be there on Tuesday night (indoors) - I'll be in the house! It will be Watts second show there. He came to play a tribute to Iggy Pop sax-man and Pacifica resident Steve MaKay who passed away.

Then: 1950 Ford Deluxe rag-tops parked out front -

Now: coastal/urban renewal!

My band The Sean Conneries last played there a week ago today!

Thanks Sam! My back-burner retro Maezzi inspired build Maezzi Hollywood (referenced) project will start to get some life starting next Tuesday when I (finally!) pick up the neck from my SF luthier Dan Ransom. It's about 6 months overdue... ok, 6 since commissioned so 5 months overdue. Oh well - unforeseen circumstances. I've been very busy with my band these last 6 months rehearsing, recording and getting shows so it's not like I'm lacking something to do.

Cool - it's been fun restoring the old girl.., locals keep coming up saying they remember this or that about the joint - "I used to haunt the place when I was younger", or "I remember the WINTERS' lettering in such & such year". It's one of a few buildings that old in Pacifica. It was moved from closer to the coast just south of its current location right off HW1 when they expanded the HW in the '40s. Businesses wanted to be where the revenue was going to be so it went from a coastal neighborhood bar to a HW1 roadhouse! Owners/proprietors CJ and Corrine are dedicated to making it a special place. A shot from stage right before our show.
