Wow, Geo nice new bass! Certainly is high mileage. Bet it plays great.

Like I said, I'm pretty sure it will. Flats for it should arrive tomorrow. With the grimy old strings that were on it, I could only tell the pu/electronics work as they should and the neck/frets/action was tight etc, but not much tonal feedback so far. There's cool sounding old strings... and then there's just old strings. This bass was strung w/the later. Will do a tone-report as soon as it's set up!

yeah, I meant it's been played to look like that, unlike my MJT which was made to look like that.........I'm getting excited for the Tele to arrive....... One owner bass......... on one hand too bad he modded it, on the other, that's why I could afford it.......so, I'm happy

They were suspended over muratic acid (not by me) sorry I cant offer advise on it.
and then sanded with very fine grit. Control plates and pickguard were only sanded.

Had some kind of stickum sprayed on its neck so despite the cool look I went all in with the refin.

What type of finish is that? How'd it get the ripple effect on the back?
The only thing I could imagine right now is leaving nitro on a crumpled up shirt in a car or something.

It started as the stock clear turquoise. Over time I started wearing out a spot where my right forearm rested. The bulk of the damage was from the weather (leaving it in my car all times of the year due to constant gigging). The edge of the finish would peel up and crack off. That's also the ripple effect you see on the back; the clear coat chipping and leaving some color behind.

I was the second owner, I got it in 1980. I put all but one very small mark on it. The two spots at the edge of the pick guard between the pups are from my thumb.

I'll get some more pics of the checking and buckle rash on the back.

I recognize that Tele from Bass Northwest.
I played it when I was down there.
It was priced ridiculously at first.
Hope you didn't overpay.
Any plans to get it back to stock (fill in the p-bass route and refin) ?

Not mine, it was in a practice room a while back. Absolutely ruined. The paint that is there was dinted and peeling. Looked like it had been brown originally then black. They had guitars that had vertically no paint left and the underlying wood was scared and dinted.

I wondered at the time if they were deliberately worn copies (I have a friend who "distresses" guitars) but the owner claimed he'd had them since he opened back in the late 80s / early 90s and they were used when he'd got them.
