These are my babies. I have a Flea 5 with MM + J pups on the way, too! :hyper:

I love the Sweet Spot - it has just the right tone for me. It cuts through in large rooms and convention centers like no other bass I've ever played. I've had quite a few compliments from FOH sound guys.

The VJ gets all the kudos in the studio, though. Maybe it's the passive-ness...

Had this custom built for me back in '95. I'd been emailing back and forth with Geoff Gould prior to placing the order, and I let him know that he should be expecting my order. Well, about two weeks after placing the order, he emailed me and let me know that I might want to get after the place I placed the order with (now out of business), as they'd taken my money, but never bothered to put it in. They apologized and said they'd get right on it. Finally, after months of waiting, I got it. Imagine my annoyance when I opened the case, because I had ordered, and paid for, the cocobolo fretboard, but in their hurry to send my order in, they neglected to include that part. They said they'd be more than happy to reimburse me the money for the fretboard. I totally love the bass and it's seen a lot of gigging, but it still annoys me that I never got that fretboard.

Well folks, it's time to unsub from this thread as I no longer own a Modlulus.. I played mine for five years and in that time the Modulus saw many other fivers come and go. The clarity and tone of these basses is special. The Quantum bass definetly brought out the best in my playing. I would definetly buy one again, I would love to get a Flea 4 w/lane poor someday. On second thought, I think I will stay subscribed so I can see all these cool basses.

Here's my Modulus TBX 5. Not to many of these were built. If I'm not mistaken, less than 100 were made. Built in 1991, and I've owned her ever since.

Only made them for a year or so, '90/'91 era. I talked to Geoff on the phone about them & they were all handbuilt one at a time. Phil Lesh was one of the main influences on these beast being produced(yes, less than 100 total, 4-5-6 strings with 4 being the rarest & fretless/hollowbodies after or with them, them there's the options...).
It's a shame that if you call Modulus now, there's no one there that has ANY info on these or helped with the builds.
They really are rare birds & handbuilt works of art...
