I just had a massive resto job done on this.

Kramer era NS-2. Had the board planed to true up the neck, refretted, new bone nut, and refinished cadillac pearl white. Bartolini pickups that I MUCH prefer to EMG's.

This one was one of the last to come out of the Kramer shop, and is an oddball with the black hardware consistent with the korean models. But, this has the crown inlays in it, and there is a cnc cut filler piece put around the smaller bridge where it was originally cut for the larger US bridge which was under the original black finish. No serial number. PJ Rubal and I are both shrugging trying to pinpoint what the hell this actually was originally.....but it was originally cut as a USA NS-2. It's a bit of a bastrich, but it's the best playing and sounding Spector I have had to date (not to mention IMO, one of the best looking). I've got about 1200 bucks in it with all the work. Quickly becoming my #1 bass.

So I'm a new member and a relatively new bassist, but for almost as long as I've played bass I've been lusting after Spectors. My personal bass hero has a red NS made in 84 or earlier (can't get any more specific with the model there), and I think it's the sexiest instrument I've ever seen.

All that to say.... wow! This thread is awesome! Paul, I especially loved your green beauty! It's sooooo gorgeous! Thanks for the enjoyment and the eye candy. (Cause even though they DO sound great, they're all beautiful instruments.)

I like EMG's but I also like Barts, so I'd like to hear it with the Barts to see how it sounds...

I tried an American NS5 yesterday, and I gotta' say WOW!

The negative stuff I've heard about them was not true in any way. Sterile? No way. Lacking bass? No way. To hissy treble? No way.

All I heard was a ballsy, punchy, gritty tone with loads of booty to spare. Plus a B-string to die for.
This particular bass was built in 2001, does anyone know what preamp was used back then?
