As for Conan, huge fan of the Howard books, don't care for any of the movies. Schwarzy isn't Conan, he just isn't. But yeah sure he's less ****** than Jason Momoa. But that's not saying much. It is my belief they can't make Conan into movies and not have it be stupid. So I hope they stop trying.

That being said I DO own the Poledouris soundtrack. Classic. I played Morrowind and bBlivion to this soundtrack, i'd replace the tunes from the game in the folder with Conan tunes.

Arnold's problem was that he didn't come off as intelligent. If Conan is anything, he's f'n clever.

I actually recently bought the soundtrack. Such a spectacular soundtrack. The first part of the movie plays like an opera to the score as there is little to no words.

I thought it was a wonderfully made movie with spectacular acting (Sandahl Bergman was fantastic.) I actually thought Conan was Arnie's best role, I thought he fit the barbarian type quite well. The fact he didn't speak great English was a great addition to the character in my opinion. To each his own.

I know they took some liberties with the storylines in the book. I am sure if I had them all I might view the movie differently.

Arnie made Conan look like a moron.

You can see they tried to give him the right persona more in the 2011 film but it was wasted on a bad script and bad actor. All Jason Momoa did was try to look menacing (and while Conan is always described as bronzed, Momoa looked far too exotic).

Some people claim Arnie had the body of conan, no he looks like Frazetta and, later, Marvel's Conan. That's not the definitive Conan, before the Frazetta covers or the comics came along while he was described as muscular, this is Howard writing in the 30s, he didn't mean him to look Mr Universe bodybuilder muscular. Just fit and muscular like someone who spent his life living in the wild and fighting. To really do justice to Conan's personality and cunning, you need to cast a decent actor in the Conan role, not a bodybuilder or poopie tv actors (like Kevin Sorbo or Jason Momoa...cause that Kull movie was supposed to be Conan originally)

I enjoyed the Conan films enough as a kid (i think Destroyer might be the first real fantasy film i saw, it was also the first movie with Arnie i saw, didnt even know who he was) but when i got into the book i realised how wrong the movies were. I would enjoy them more without the Conan association surely.

I read Howard's stories but my vision of Conan, right or wrong, came from the comics, which I grew up reading. The comics didn't capture his sense of humor at all, but they did focus a lot on how smart he was. I don't think it was all Arnold's fault that the flicks didn't convey that. the scripts & direction didn't help.

All that said, I still love the first movie. It's not the Conan I grew up with, but Arnold does have the necessary charisma for the role.

I've been saying for years that what needs to be done is for someone with vision to make a movie out of "Hour of The Dragon". Not just mish-mash characters and locations from a few of the stories together, invent a plot, choreograph some sword fighting scenes, and call it a Conan movie. HoTD could easily become a 120 minute movie without much being changed from story to script - and it would be authentic Conan.

That being said, I can't help but love the first Conan The Barbarian with Arnold because I grew up with it and I didn't read the Robert Howard stories until I was in my twenties. Arnold's portrayal of Conan isn't accurate at all and I think Thulsa Doom came from a Kull story, but it's part of my life, nonetheless.
