Shuttle 9.0?

This is not an accurate satatement. It's based on both urban myth and some poorly executed examples of power amps in general. It's not a "digital power amp" problem as there are some glaring examples of this in the class AB analog world. If you need more power, then you need more power.


PHAT has nothing to do with what you describe. Maybe it's just as simple as you needed a 900 watt amp and just ran out of power with a 600 watt amp?

Sorry, i did not want to offend anyone. But i am not a technician and did not know how to describe it better.

I will try the thing with the effect jacks. As i tried to say the amp works fine until i play loud, straight 8s with a little dirt turned in from the preamp in a loud band practice.

It might be the limiter. Limiting is not the same as clipping and sounds different, am i right? I used to drive my amps into saturation because i liked the sounds of speakercompression for one of my bands.

Please keep calm, i like the Genz Benz sound a lot and do belive the shuttle 6.0 to be one of the the best voiced amps out there at the moment.

No offense taken, just trying to keep things straight and factual for the masses ;)

Limiting does sound different than clipping and the Shuttle's limiter is quite musical, which sometimes results in folks liking the sound and feer so they drive hard and deep into limiting in their quest for that sound. Maybe backing off just a little bit will get you what you want to hear?

Sorry, I was expressing frustration to some common misconceptions and urban myths that keep popping up that had nothing to do with you cellkirk74. Sorry you took it that way. I will try to keep my engineerspeak under better control. ;)

Yeah, I hit that limiting mode once with my Shuttle and my reactions was, "ooh sweet!". It really was quite musical and I really liked it. However, I'm not particularly inclined to push my amp into that territory on a regular basis.

I'm supposing that some sort of outboard effect would be needed to get that sound at lower volumes?

Correct. The only currently produced Micro amps that I know of that use a class A/B amps are the Markbass LMII/III/LMTube and the TecAmp Puma350. The spec on the soon to be released (:smug:) Epifani Piccolo indicates it is class A/B also, but Epifani is notorious for having sloppy spec's and mistakes on their website.

I don't think so. Wouldn't you just need to turn up the gain and turn down the master? From what I gather, the limiting happens at the preamp stage.

Limiting happens at the Power Amp stage.. on the shuttle
but you can still get some slight tube compression on the input if you hit it real hard.. Two different things
