Shuttle 9.0?

Yup. Exactly that.

I'm rather fond of the sound of it, but it takes a good bit of cranking to get there. I'm guessing I might get there a bit sooner with some EQ boosting, but perhaps an outboard peddle may be a better option there. I just don't know how close an effect peddle might get to that sound.

BTW - Sorry for the thread derail. That 9.0 looks pretty sweet!

Correct.

The output stage limiting is a little bit different though, and has a different feel too.

Great job by Ed on that one. That clip sounds a LOT better than many of the others that he's done. They must be using a better recording technique or something. Everything sounded very good to me, and you could really hear the impact of the tonal changes he was demonstrating. Nice!

I like that black faceplate much better than the '70's stereo' looking chrome. That's a nice head, and from what I could hear on that clip, a nice match with that 410!

That's a very positive change IMO. I assume that is also changed on the Max amps, since they too seem fatter and more even when set flat than the Shuttle 6.0, which is pretty thin down low to my ear without some boost in the low mids/low end.

That is my question, does the Max 12 have the same low end voicing as the Shuttle 9?

I'm guessing that the amps that are intended to be part of the combos (Shuttle 3.0 and 6.0) and go with the Shuttle cabs have the low filter and that the amps that aren't intended to be part of the combos have the more open filter. Since I have the Shuttle 6.0 head, the filter is a bit of a bad thing. I can always boost the low end though, so I'm not inclined to get too worked up about it.

Boosting the lows on the 6.0 is fine, and I did that with mine. It worked, but it never really sounded deep like the flatly voiced LMII. Ed mentions a HPF being set lower in the video. If that's the case, that would definitely change the heads voicing and give a lot more beef out of the box, much less when boosting low-end. That would be a VERY welcome change in a head of that power as it would let you do justice to a nice 410 cabinet.

For clarification, when the low frequency extend is engaged, it lowers/extends the HPF and also changes the voicing of the low end slightly. The -3dB point is in the high 20's with the extend selected. That's plenty low for virtually all normal bass cabinets on the market. In fact, it's too low for many, which is why we have the normal position. Not only does it protect the cabinets from overexcursion, it also cleans up mud thatthe speakers generate trying to reproduce (ineffectively) down there.

To put it another way, I've been very happy with the Shuttle 6.0 and I'm not going to let this new piece of information suddenly make me unhappy. The amp hasn't changed, why should I let my perception of it change? Yes, if there were a jumper that you just go in and move in the amp and suddenly the HPF were moved like the 9.0 has it, I'd do it. But since I'm guessing that there isn't, I am still happy with the amp. It's always done exactly what I need it to do.

I'm torn, Max 12.0 or is there a black face Max 18.0 coming down the pipe?
Which is the correct choice for the NeoX 12T series of cabs?

Ain't it GREAT to have such a dilemma? :D

The 6.0 IS a great amp, but being able to get that 500 watts to 8 ohms and then 900 at 4, that extra bit of clean power should make the Genz cabs open up and sing like a church choir!!! I cant wait till mine is delivered!!

i notice that the 9.0 still has the regular speakon connectors, vs. the newer speakon / 1/4" hybrid connectors i see on the gk mb2500 and the mb f1, and that was even on my old ea wizzy cab.

i kinda like the hybrid connector since its pretty handy for those club / rental / rehearsal cabs that still use the ol' 1/4" connectors. and yes, i cant remember how many speakon to 1/4" adaptors i've lost... ;)

I don't know if the combos are acceptable in the EU. They really don't want you to use 1/4" over there and if it lets you, you can't sell it (new) over there.

At least that's my understanding from a previous Shuttle thread - Roger (HasBeen) will correct me if I'm wrong.
