Shuttle 9.0?

We heard from AgedHorse on this a while back. Has to do with 900 watts being dangerous if you are touching the 1/4" jack. With the speakon you can't touch the actual electrical contacts.

At the voltage (and current) levels in the Shuttles 6.0 & 9.0, they will not meet agency safety certification standards without using touch proof, high current connectors. This applies more and more countries every year. Face it guys, 1/4" connections for higher powered amps are on their way out, and in the big picture it's a good thing too IMO.

The Speak-on style connector is now the defacto standard. It's proven itself to be a safe and reliable connection.

I've taken a hit off the back of a GBE1200 once, while using a 1/4" adapter. It wasn't fun at all.

FYI, that's ~90 volts... definately will get your attention. Hurt a little too.

I have a Speak-on cable ready to use with my combo and extension cab. I doubt the shock would hurt much from a 3.0 but why would I not want to use this kind of cable/connector.

I'm totally with you, but I can offer one reason: some cabs only have a single speakON connector. If you're looking to drive two cabs with one amp....and if that amp also only has a single output channel/single speakON connector...it's time to incorporate 1/4" connectors. (Tangent warning... ) Case in point - Epifani 502 & Aguilar GS112's.

The new 9.0 power section is just right for large 4 ohm cabs and the host of 500 watt 8 ohm cabs out there. Kudos! Is there any plan to offer a 9.0 Max? Some like it simple but the tube/FET option and dual semi-parametric mids would seal the deal for me.

Yeah, I hit that limiting mode once with my Shuttle and my reactions was, "ooh sweet!". It really was quite musical and I really liked it. However, I'm not particularly inclined to push my amp into that territory on a regular basis.

True, dat. I honestly haven't played a SS amp that eased into that zone so smoothly and made me remember, for a moment, the days of overdriving tube amps...it's really friendly...and FUN!

I'm picking up my Max12 tonight. If there's a Max18 on the horizon (with a black face...yep, I'm a sucker for good looks and the silver finish is my only gripe about the Shuttle series) I'll be mad at myself for jumping the gun.

I'm picking up my Max12 tonight. If there's a Max18 on the horizon (with a black face...yep, I'm a sucker for good looks and the silver finish is my only gripe about the Shuttle series) I'll be mad at myself for jumping the gun.

It's my understanding that the 12 can be incredibly loud and I'd bet you won't be lacking for power with it.

I think a Max 18 would be reserved for military use only
