You can do nothing on TB and get called a troll.

How this thread was called a troll thread, I'll never know

because rather than coming to us with a problem that you wanted to solve, you asked a vague question and shot down every answer with things like “I don’t like that one” and “you will never understand” and then added additional information as to why suggestions within your initial parameters were unacceptable in a smug and combative tone, as though we all should have been able to read your mind. I’ve been on the internet long enough to know a troll thread and this checks the boxes.

don’t open, let die.

Ok ok.

Maybe you have been on the internet too long

Power amp + pre-amp pedals gives you the greatest tone control per $ spent
I'll tend to agree with this in principle, as my last large stage rig was a Yamaha P7000S power amp and a 1RU preamp I designed and built. It had EQ, but I seldom used it.
This changed later to losing the poweamp and DI-ing into the board.

The ultimate hi-fi practice of as little tone modification and as few components between input and output may be the Alembic Series basses, which output from their power supplies can go directly into a stereo power amp input. Only the onboard filters straight into the power amp and on to the speakers. Not even many of those guys do that.
That was how I used my system for a long time. The custom 1RU pre had EQ because I sometimes used other basses, but it also had a 5 pin XLE input that supplied a regulated 18V to the on bass electronics, as the Alembic DS5 boxes are rubbish. I tended to run the Series basses flat on the pre and no pedals.

I can’t fathom why you wouldn’t put your full intentions in your original post.

people on here are genuinely trying to be helpful, but strange requests without explanation will yield poopieshows like you got here. Your snarky responses only bolster claims of you being a troll.

My full intention was to find out if there is an amp that only has gain and volume - this is it:
- this intention is firmly stated in the opening post.

If my intention somehow triggers you......then I am not sure what to say.

so just an amp with two knobs sitting on your floor in your livingroom not connected to a cab or to a bass. /s

Sometimes the amp will be connected to my bass and cab - e.g. if I am doing a gig.

Other times the amp won't be connected to my bass and cab - e.g. if I am driving or flying to a gig.

I need an amp that can be either connected or disconnected, as I chose.

it almost seems like we’re 1/10 of where you needed to be in post #1.

so there will be a bass, and a cab. What bass, what cab, what preamp, where you’re using it, how many watts.

this is the full layout you should’ve put out first

for all we know you just want a sound system for your fishing boat and your crappy attitude got you banned from Best Buy.

responses like this last one are why the amount of help you’ll get will be limited and the amount of flak you’ll get is not limited.

Mate, I gave an answer to your question.

OP, you've received many creative suggestions to your original post. Anything here that would consider trying? Any information you can provide as to your gear, style, music preference, band situation, and tone goals will improve your chances of getting the answers you seek.

I have given a very succinct summary of my thoughts based on responses - read the thread and you'll see.

I posed a question - many people capably answered; a select group got offended because I didn't give my life story.
