Learn how to build a preamp pedal with enough gain to drive a power amp, and with a *fixed* EQ that you choose; you design the resistor/capacitor filter that works for you, solder it together, leave it in the box with no knob, or put it in the instrument.
Not recommending tube circuits, just a 9V pedal. Anyone could learn how to do this.
They are both power amps only.It seems like the Baby Sumo is the likely winner -- I think the Jay Ganz is a power amp only, so would need something in the way of a preamp.
Gain and Volume?
GR has you covered. (Hope you don't mind the On/Off switch on back. Also has an DI-out. Is this to much?)

They're not neutral. They have a baked-in tone that's significantly colored.Carrots don’t have tone controls.![]()
Has anyone suggested a Markbass yet? No-one? Ok...

The GR contains a bass-centric preamp, while the Baby Sumo does not. It is still a very compact unit. This looks good, but why is this so much bigger than a Baby Sumo?

Also, it's cheaper to reuse an enclosure and not punch hole in the faceplate than to create a new one. You still need real estate for the IEC power connector, two Speakons and XLR DI. The Baby Sumo only has the single Speakon and no DI.
If there is one, I'm interested. I got nothing against them, but I don't need 5 stages of EQ, just vol and tone would suit me. I don't use overdrive or distortion playing bass, so those controls would do it for me.
I knew a bassist who plugged his G&L bass into a compressor and then into a power amp. That was it.DI into a power amp?
