Simplest amp

Don't worry OP, I get you.

All my amps I end up running the EQ flat and the soundman is going to do what he wants to do to my signal anyway.

I hope you realize that almost all guitar or bass amps, with the eq knobs at noon , are not "flat" - to actually achieve flat, you need to measure things, and figure out where to set the knobs. Some amps (including most Fenders) won't even do flat, no matter where you set the knobs.

Can't find a shot with the faceplate , but the red plush covered ARB amp from the late 60s had 3 - vol, bass treble

I've owned maps with simpler controls, but not any that sounded better than the Marshall JCM800.

I'm with OP. Never understood why every pedal and his dog (dog being the amp) has an EQ.

Why do you need 3+ EQs in your signal chain?

You're assuming (as is OP) that everyone only needs one tone per night. For many of us, that simply isn't true. And taking the time to fiddle on the bass, or run back and fiddle with my amp, doesn't make sense. If I can have a two-channel amp (which I do), and a couple of pedals, one click of a button puts me right where I want to be.

I'm not knocking your way of doing it. But our way isn't wrong either.
