Simplest amp

So.......for circa US$800, you can buy:
- 800W power amp
- two pre-amp / DI pedals (at least).

More tone control and portablity than with any similar powered bass head

There's always been the argument of a lot of tone control, and it's visible out there right now: Lots of basses with active tone networks and built-in 3-band EQ . . . . going down to the cable to amp heads with lots MORE tone shaping capability. I often think this potent tone-tweaking at both ends winds up with final EQ that must keep @agedhorse up nights building in enough reserve for it, but it does fuel those evergreen TB questions about their tone is 'too bassy' or 'it farts out'. Ya think ?

Like most things, I don't think human beings are wired for less anything, and I'm not sure how many minimalist rigs GC or Sweetwater might sell.

The ultimate hi-fi practice of as little tone modification and as few components between input and output may be the Alembic Series basses, which output from their power supplies can go directly into a stereo power amp input. Only the onboard filters straight into the power amp and on to the speakers. Not even many of those guys do that.

I often wonder how many would be caught flat-footed playing through a rack rig that had a rack-mount cut-only graphic EQ . . . . . .

Well..... the mesa TT800 will get you 2 tube driven separate preamps, foot switchable, 800 w poweramp, 2 effect loops, 2 High Pass Filters, overdrive symmetry control, switchable deep and bright switches and switchable hi/lo gain control, and USB power out and oh yeah and 2 tube driven DI outs all in a single box.

So.........folks

No having a single bass amp with a million knobs doesn't mean you don't like tone - actually it is the opposite.

If you really like tone control, you will use:
- a power amp
- different pre-amp pedals to adjust tone.

Power amp + pre-amp pedals gives you the greatest tone control per $ spent

Thank you for challenging us with your obvious genius.

Sure........How much? What weight? What size?

For that same price, you could get numerous pre-amp pedals (all switchable), including tube pedals - with the option of changing to something else in the future - and fitting it all in a smaller box.

This thing is outta control

That GR is a winner! It even has a 9v output jack on the back so you can power an EQ and distortion pedal if you want. ;)

Seriously though, It does look very interesting.

I agree! I own a BB800, and adore it. I use it for most of my electric and upright gigs. I have a pedalboard I need for some shows, but half the time all I MUST carry is a tuner and my HPF. I could Velcro them to the top of that GR and BAM, easy carry, even easier set up...!

Something like 10x10 6lbs. Sure you could, you went from wanting simple to connecting many parts or points of failure and with power or battery issues to deal with. The TT800 gets me 1 power cable, 1 guitar cable and 6lbs and flexibility to handle anything I could throw at it , and up there with the best reliability and support in the industry. ...but thats just imho.

It isn't 6lb.....there is only extra points of weakness if you have extra pedals, which I wouldn't.
