I think that with the "MFD" thing IS G&Ls thang, so to at least offer the "Jazz" styled basses the option of having an updated version of these bad boys would be stellar.

Was anyone able to ask what pickups they're packing in the JB? We can assume that they'll be the same as the JB-2, but are they actually the same?

The JB-1 and JB-2 need MFDs.

I like the neck profile and the light weight of my -2, but it sure needs MFD power.

I totally agree but being the sissy I am I prefer the Lynx contoured body. Sound-wise I must admit I never played the old SB-2 so I don't know if there's much of a difference though I suspect there isn't, unless the winding of th pups is different.

There's no difference except that the Lynx has the contoured body and was available with a rosewood fingerboard. Most Lynx Basses have a maple body just like the early SB-2, though some were made with ash bodies.

I worked at NAMM this year and was told I wasn't allowed to touch ANYTHING! I did touch this though. It was about as nice as my L-2000. I didn't even ask on how much.

There's a lot more to buying a bass than just cosmetics, but the symmetrical JB-2 body appeals to me more than the Fender Jazz offset body. I hope they keep the JB-2 around long enough for me to get my order in, say ten or fifteen years.

As long as the JB-2 is still around, I'll be happy. The exact "trad" feel of this J clone named JB does not appeal so well to me.

Lots of good input and comments here. Both pro and con.

One thing about this JB is it shows G&L is willing to go through the CNC programing bother to do a top route control cavity,beyond just the current SB-2. Why didn't they do it for the Cent. L2K then?

So that is one reason off the table as to why they can't do more old school originals like the gen 1 SB-2 too.

On top of that...they went through the bother to do the Jazz off set body too. So having to stay with products that use redundant part pieces for economic reasons can't be the reason not to revamp old models. They've proven they're willing to produce a body shape completely new to the current line. So bring on the vintage models G&L !

Side Note: I saw and played a 08' SB-2 that came from the factory with an old style metal, black crinkle finish pickguard! When did this start being offered again. Why wasn't it shown at NAMM.

I think it's a great idea to make this bass. Alot of players find the switches and gadgetry built into other G&Ls to be cumbersome and difficult and there is something very off about the JB-2. A guy I was talking to earlier said it best, they look kind of 80's. He was trying out an American Fender J and said it was ok but when I told him I saw G&L doing a real J Clone he said he'd go that route before a Fender J.

I've played very few Fenders that can touch a G&L and if I want a trad J I'd rather get a G&L that any other manufacturer.

I am adamant that G&L should re-introduce the mini MFD's found in El Toro's and Interceptors. Man, imagine that uber-sexy JB-1 above with a set El Toro MFD's. How about a JB-2 with the mini MFD's and a 2K pre-amp?

Either idea is a winner. AND would sell big. if anyone at the KCC is watching, please, take note. Darth? You out there?

That I'm one of very few JB-2 owners that is truly satisfied with the bass as it is.

I own both an L2K and a JB-2. I love both of them....but I REALLY love the the JB-2...I've written about it several times mostly on the old Dudepit but on this forum as well. Simply a phenomenal, phenomenal instrument. I love the fact that it is passive, I like the pickups...MFD they are not....for me they are perfect for the jazz voicing of the bass. The JB-2 is very unforgiving of bad technique, but the bass just freakin' sings. Unbelievable slap tone as well. Records like a dream. (Also doesn't hurt that it weighs right at 8 pounds - incredibly comfortable to wear).

Count me as very happy with my JB-2.

On the new bass, while it's probably a good marketing strategy, I'm with Chef on this one.
