and a relic, i mean "rustic" option...
nothing really amazing and new. but then again, G&L could make nothing but L-2000s and not many of us would complain...

While I like the JB2 well enough, why in the world would you "move to copying a Fender" instead of some clearly G&L direction.

There are plenty enough Jazz clones out there already.
I'll keep my current JB2:
They would have done better to go back to "old school G&L Jazz" than dredge up old Fender designs> Either of these former G&L takes on Jazz have more innovative pickup and electronics packages.

Bring back the El Toro as their "new jazz!"
Here's two ways to improve the old Toro:
add passive tone to tame the "over the top" active treble a bit...
change the series mode such that you can still select which pikcup you want.
A lightly tweaked 5 string Toro with a revised, moder neck profile (NOT the archaic L2500 2x4 neck profile!!!) would be a huge winner.
Bring back the El Toro as their "new jazz!"

In one respect, I understand what G&L is doing, trying to broaden its market share/ awareness by offering a 'traditional' Jazz Bass design. it definitely has my attention- and that Sonic Blue/ maple combination has the GAS-o-meter pegged!
But I'm with Chef on the idea that a new offering should be closer to Leo's later designs, definitely in the El Toro range. Having had a Toro, their appeal is one of the greatest-kept secrets in bass-dom. At the very least, bring back the Toro/ Interceptor mini- MFD's on the JB-2. Take a look at all the guys modding their Skyline 55-01's with Nordstrand Big Singles,or duals, and you get the picture.

I'm of the opinion that in order for G&L to be able to do the things that will likely not sell as well, like the Bull or Lynx, they need to gain market share with a design that will. Well now that it looks like this is for real..... I'm in agreement. A new design, even if it's a kind of rehearsal of Leo's original jazz design,
, is probably going to be a good idea sales-wise.A well-made jazz bass is a good thing anyway......
Now I want them to make a 6 string, like, er.. the L2600 or something?

I understand the disappointment at such a conventional Jazz clone from G&L, and the desire for something like an El Toro with more G&L character. It reminds me of the reaction among the Saab faithful when the 9000 went from the traditional Saab hatchback design to a regular three box sedan. But the 9000's sales improved dramatically, and I bet G&L will sell quite a few of these JB's.
It's probably great for G&L dealers who might not carry Fender or Lakland, and who thus haven't been able to offer a solid mid-priced J-bass. The SB-2 can cover P-bass ground because it has the look, but the JB-2 doesn't look like a J-bass, and unfortunately that matters for sales.
Plus, it's cool to have a traditional J-bass with G&L's #8 neck, plek treatment, bridge, options, and incredible finishes. Nothing wrong with that. I hope they offer block inlays and a five string.
