Single Cut Basses Love or Hate?

Not as extreme as some of the beauties on here, but I do like it!

I didn't really care for single cut basses until I played one, then I changed my tune. The bass was awesome - a nice player, balanced well, sounded great - in my particular instance, I didn't jive with the neck (too wide at the nut). Otherwise, I dug it more than what I thought I would, and I tend to gravitate towards more traditional J basses.

27301306[/URL], member: 184539"]A lot of fans of Single cuts out there.

I'm not one of them. It just doesn't look right to me.

That’s exactly how I feel about pretty much every FSO ever made, and in truth the vast majority of bass guitars. Including most singlecuts, so I tend to buy based on other things than just visual aesthetics. Hate would be way too strong a word in any case. ;)

I have seen some very cool looking single cut basses.
But thought the big horn for lack of a better term would get in the way of fretting below the 12th fret. It's been years since I tried one so not sure that is a true statement or just felt different because it wasn't what I was use to. (Like going from a 4 to 5 type of a thing.)
What is the theory behind the design of these basses?
More wood provides a deeper tone?

Please Feel free to educate away and show your cool basses.
I’m of the mind that I would benefit more from lighter weight than from any added stability this design might add. I played one briefly at a show but have never owned one. The feel and playability were OK but I wasn’t in a setting where I could tell about Tone.

Aesthetically, I despise the basses which seem to be most prevalent in this thread.

I tried to play one once and I just couldn't wrap my head (or hands) around the situation.

As for the Gibson/Guild/Rickenbacker/whatever single cuts, most of the bodies are too fat for me to play them comfortably (even when I could stand to play).

I'm not completely opposed, but the one I get would have to be a thin line (like a bass version of a Gibson 335[ish]).
