Interesting. I enjoy all my Islay malts regardless of the numbers. Actually I find the Caol Ila smoother than The Frog and the Talisker. But like high end gear they're all good, just different.

Single Malt Scotch!

Interesting. I enjoy all my Islay malts regardless of the numbers. Actually I find the Caol Ila smoother than The Frog and the Talisker. But like high end gear they're all good, just different.
I also have a bottle of Laphroaig, and I do like it, but if the smokey/peaty thing is your thing, and you like that scotch, and you haven't yet tried a Lagavulin, that should be your very next purchase, and I am not kidding.
Trust me, you guys don't need to tell me - it's already topping my to buy list for scotch, and the only question is when I can justify adding another bottle to my shelf..
I can't get a shipment from them due to being out of the USA. We get it for about $93 CAD here, which is not bad. The price has been stable for some time, so I'm not too worried...Beltramos still has it for $65/bottle, which is currently a good deal. It's getting harder to find and it's already up to around 90-100/bottle in many local stores now (where it used to cost more like what Beltramos was charging). Word to the wise...
I'll put them right behind the Lagavulin. Which bottle do you recommend from Caol Ila?

I have tried several Caol Ila's, and for my tastes, at least, I strongly prefer Lagavulin 16.
I have not seen Caol Ila in an LCBO for a while. I had to get my bottle at the Duty Free on the way back from Ohio.
I expect I'll be looking for some interesting Laphroaig and Ardbeg on my way back from Europe next month. LCBO used to carry The Frog quarter cask but not for a while now.
You'll like the Caol Ila when you find it for sure.

Well i've never bought a "commercial" bottle of their whisky, preferring to get it straight from the cask at whisky shops. I have a bottle from Milroys of Soho from a single cask that is 17 years old and at "drinking" strength, and a 14 year old straight from the cask at cask strength. To my tastes I prefer the 14 year old, but the cask is all gone now so there is no telling what the next bottle will be like as it will be from a different cask.
I need to go and get another bottle of whisky and a congac from the whiskyexchange as my supplies are running low and my girlfirend has me on a "no beer" diet. I am limited to only a few pints of beer a week which, in my view, is no beer. However she didnt say anything about no whisky!

HAH! You don't want any of my stuff... most of it's got defective wood in it...Send me your basses and I promise to send you as much straight from the cask whisky as you want. Fair trade?

As a Scot, I'd endorse the Macallan - tastes like a Scotch ought to, and add that IMHO The Glenginchie is pretty good at the moment.
Any of you Ohio guys ordered from Beltramos before? Is there any attempt in any step of the process to collect Ohio tax? I'm thinking of ordering from them, because the prices of my moderately priced favorites, Mac 12 and Glenlivet 12, are like 60 to 70 percent of the Liquor Store price. I assume this is due to not paying Ohio tax.

I have ordered from Beltramos, and to the best of my recollection, they did not charge sales tax for Ohio. I will have to check the receipts to be sure.

Ok, when it comes to aging I know very little. I know Scotch is aged in wooden barrels. On a 12 year Scotch how long is it actually aged in a barrel? I have a couple bottles of Macallan 12 year. Could I store these bottles for twenty years and have a better tasting Scotch or does it not age in the bottle at all?
Scotch does mellow SLIGHTLY in the bottle over the years, but it doesn't "age" like it does in the cask. Technically, all aging is strictly in the cask.
In other words, after 20 years in the bottle, a 12yr scotch is still a 12yr scotch. So, just drink it and enjoy it now.
