Single Malt Scotch!

Congratulations on all fronts (great scotch, finishing grad school, and a great wife)!

Lagavulin 16 is one of my all-time faves.
+1

If I want bite/spice in an Islay, I go Laphroaig, if I want smoooooth but still all the peaty wonderfulness, I go Lagavulin. Most times, I like smoooooth. :)

A friend of mine gave me this bottle a few months ago:

And I just finished off the last of it last week.

Honestly, I felt that it should have been smoother for the price. The Glenlivet's flavor profile was more complex and developed, but I preferred the "texture" of the Glenfiddich 12.

Hey folks, Shopper's Vinyard is running this great special again on one of my favorites, Laphroaig 18-year. The free shipping is what makes it really special. This is a really fantastic scotch at a great price, IME/IMHO.

Back in my hotel after a great night at Yoshi's San Francisco:

Hiromi with Anthony Jackson and Simon Phillips was just amazing. I talked up the guy at the door and managed to get a seat all the way in front, just to the right of Hiromi. Purchased the trio's new cd, which I think will be released widely in a week or so...highly recommended.

Throughout the show, I enjoyed a Highland Park 15 year. Very balanced...I like HP very much.

mmmmm, Talisker & Lagavulin are certainly favs. Also strong liking for Dalwhinnie at the moment (similar to Lagavunin)... yum.

Balvenie stopped doing the 10yo a few years ago, but you can still find them on shelves around the place. They do the 12yo now... just saying if you want to pick an old 10yo up... could be a little bit of a collector in erm, 60 years time lol.

I'm going to the show tonight, and looking forward to it. I'll likely have a beer, though!
