Finally gotten into peat....it's a slippery slope I hear....my poor wallet.
if it's any comfort, it wasn't for me. i do enjoy it, however, so i do have the peaty stuff in my collection, but i really have to be in the mood for it, which is less typical for me.

I went to buy a bottle of Lagavulin and not only were they out of stock but it was listed at $87/bottle. Is this the going rate or is my state just very expensive when it comes to liquor? I thought I remembered seeing it cheaper elsewhere. Hmm...

Presumably you're talking about the standard 16 year old? Typically £50-£60 a bottle here, which going by xe.com would be $82 to $98 per bottle. Though we do get ripped with taxes on [DEL]whisky[/DEL] everything :(

Yes, the 16. Ok, so that isn't too bad. I was going to wait until I was on the road to try to find a cheaper bottle, but I may just order one.

I'm very excited because for my 8th anniversary, my wife is taking me to a new whiskey and steak place downtown. On my list so far are oban, Lagavulin 16, Macallan 18, Glenmorangie, and maybe an older Laphroaig. I've inly tried the 10 and I like it a lot. They have a flight of pappy van winkle that I could splurge on, but I'm not too big on bourbon. For that money, I could try quite a few different drams and get a nice meal. Any more suggestions for the list? They have a very nice selection. Thanks!
