Exactly!
I think it has something to do with the upper horn reach. It seems to reach into the neck a bit more than other 35 scale basses I have owned. Plus the light weight helps but the perfect balance is what really sets it apart. Plus the monster tone...WOW! I love all 3 of my Sires, but this one is a totally different animal for sure.
I'm finding the same with my M7 5 - hangs about the same as my M3 4, which I frequently refer to as my "little sports car" bass. The M7 is a whole lot more bass on the same little sports car frame. :D

As an aside, I am mildly surprised that only 2 people have ordered the metallic red with ash body per the poll.

I understand why-- get the same finish in alder for $90 less-- but I am a little surprised there aren't a few more tone-wood fanatics interested in red finish.

I am kind leaning toward the red in either wood, or the black/alder, if I decide to get a VV7.

Get the VV7

This. Thanks a lot, lepre. :)

I wonder how a VV7 would sound and feel compared to a Fender MM jazz. I have one of those, which makes me wonder if it wouldn't be redundant. Still, something tells me it'd still have its own independent voice. I love maple boards.
If you're speaking of the MM5 jazz...there is no comparison. I returned my MM5 within 30 days as it was way too dark and the neck was very uncomfortable.

Now if you're speaking of the MM 4 string...disregard everything I just said, but..
Trust me...get the VV7 5

My MM is a four-string. I do like it but think it could be a tiny bit brighter and shinier tone-wise... was thinking I might want to see what Marcus's current take on "his" thing is, with another four.

I ll keep it in mind re: VV7 five. I do have a V7 5-string that has a maple board, that I've seen MM play on you-tube vids... in your estimation, how different is a VV7 fiver from a V7 fiver with maple board?

The VV7 is punchier, but still has the ability to really thump. I mean it's very pronounced how articulate the VV7 can get. Plus mine was only 9.2 pounds.

Is it just me or are the M series basses the sleepers of the Sire line? It seems that the V7 is more talked about, but the Ms are amazing. I was skeptical at fist as the M7 was not like my usual basses that I've ever liked. I have only had it a week, but it is fast becoming my favorite, and I also own a V7 5 and VV7 5.

I always liked the M series... but I have a philosophy that I adhere to whenever possible.

Unless it's a known vendor (Fender, Roscoe, Fodera, Sadowsky, etc.) with a reputation for consistency, I won't buy a bass without playing it first.

Only reason I've held off on the Sire was because I haven't played one yet.

They are kind of flying under the radar; however they have only been out for 8 months so maybe it takes some time for word to get out. A lot of people that are potential Sire buyers already have a V7 so perhaps there are not enough of those folks able/willing investing in a 2nd Sire bass, or if so, are sticking with tried-and-true V7's (notwithstanding people like me and others who have bought a M7 after getting a V7).

It IS a lot different than what people who are attracted to V's might normally gravitate towards; as you've noted, it's different than what you'd have normally thought you liked. And, it is a rather un-Marcus kind of bass in style (although the quality is definitely Marcus-like). It's outside the mainstream of Fender style basses, which are everywhere and everyone understands... I don't really know of many "modern" basses that are emerging as a value star and selling tons of units like jazz-style and in particular V7's are.

So people may feel it's outside the comfort zone of a $750 purchase sight unseen, with so little known generally about them. A lot of people, I have noticed, may know about Sires but had no idea the M7 exists. Once you can inform them, they get interested. Happened last week on a "bass search" thread where the guy had a $900 budget and wanted modern/versatile. You have to have one in your hands to know how good it is; maybe soon the critical mass of M7 owners will be reached, a tipping point, and then the hype/pub will be more self-sustaining as more sales =more pub = more sales = more pub, like the V7 did.

I think Sire is quickly becoming a known vendor, but I totally understand your philosophy. Fortunately you were able to find one locally.

I don't know if i would lump fender in with those other brands in terms of consistency, but YMMV.

I´m a really happy sire V7 user and although I don´t feel the need to mod the bass, I was wondering what mods would you guys recommend.

I will have soon a BB-0356-010 gotoh bridge (amazing deal I got btw...18€) and I was planning in installing it in my squier fretless converted bass. Should this bridge go to the Sire instead?

What (future) mods do you guys recommend?

I re-soldered the wired that went loose on my v7 and made me realize that there are two issues with the input jack that I never noticed. One of the screw holes is stripped, and there's nothing in the input jack cavity to keep the jack from rotating when a cord is plugged in. I don't have enough experience with this to keep it from breaking again.
