The "newish" forum software has eliminated the old limitations on thread size.
It has become too long mainly because of continual discussions on knob swapping and shipping matters.

I just swapped out my V7 tuners for some Schaller m4s ones that I had on an old unused bass.
20 minute job with only two screw holes to peg per tuner.
Look great to me. Not as light as the Sire ones but not enough difference to create neck dive when wearing a strap.
I would not have bothered if haddent had these Shallers lieing around as there was nothing wrong whatsoever with the original tuners but these are definitely better when tuning down that used to stick a little with the Sires.

I have found a solution for sticking tuners (the open gear kind) that works for me so far. I put a very small drop of bicycle chain lube oil (the kind with teflon) on the little gear attached to the tuning post. Then turn a bunch of times to distribute it evenly. I did this before I installed inexpensive very tight tuners on 3 or 4 basses. You can also put a drop under the big gear if you want, but NOT too much and wipe away the excess. Let them sit a day and wipe them dry again to be sure. All of them still feel tight and smooth after a year of use. Anyone have reservations about this?
Exact same story with my V7-5, with Schaller BMs on it now - I had 4 in a drawer + 1 I bought (BM = Musicman/G&L model).

I had to fill the old screw holes with chopstick dowels and redrill new ones for the Schallers. Otherwise, same diameter for the post washers. Not a big difference, Schaller tunes probably work a tad smoother.
My V7 was one of the first lefthanders is n Europe about 2 years ago and one of the first Chinese made Sires. Tuners were fine with none of the teeth stripping issues reported a few months ago.
TBH I only changed them for cosmetic reasons.
So when the P7 arrives, I'll have 5 Sires - Do I win? Anyone here have more?
Anyone here have more?I don't but they are basically the same with a thicker plate that is slightly beveled. The holes are also in slightly different positions.
I have to agree, I ordered a P7 4st Alder/Rosewood in Tobacco Sunburst two days ago. Before I got my first I was wondering why people would buy more than one if they found one they liked in the range. Needless to say I'm now on my third.

Oh yeah, especially because of the price and quality. One of my friends has an VF5 F Bass, ONLY costing around 4 grand. The money I've spent on the 3 Sires is less than half of the F bass costs and while it may be a more refined bass I don't think its worth 4 times what my Sire is.Yeah, they really should come with a "May Be Addictive" warning on the side of the box!
