SKYRIM!!!!!

Thanks, my wife has been sewing 24/7 the last month. It just kind of started with my daughter making a few hats for herself, from the class, then people at school keep asking to make them one & it just kind of keeps growing. The Mindcraft Creeper has been really popular. We will see how the Skyrim dragon mask turns out.

Thanks again.

I hope to get the game soon after the holidays. Can anyone send me the manual so I can read up (having never played any of the Elder Scrolls games before)? I can't access the website from work...

Thanks!

same here, it was my first time playing this type of RPG and the learning curve was like 4 hours. i had the manual, but it did not help me understand the game.

here are some tips to help you:

-farming in skyrim is different from farming in most RPG games (i.e. Diablo). basically, you do not kill one boss over and over... instead, you do an action over and over. sometimes its silly, and somehow i wish theyd fix it (more on this later).

-if you are going for Mage builds, concentrate on Mana. if its a hit and run type (i.e. archer) invest in stamina. and finally, Health if you wanna go with warrior types.

-you only make build mistakes when you spend "Perks" too early. do not spend on perks too early... and do not worry about certain skills being left behind because it is surprisingly and annoyingly easy to level them up.

-take note of skills like sneak, pickpocket, smithing, enchanting, and alchemy. if you are a Diablo II type of guy like me, you will ignore those and only realize how fun they are in the later part, and as far as i know, a fast way to get good game items than killing lots of monsters.

-lastly, sometimes you enjoy leveling up non-offensive skills that you end up in a high level and you do not have an offensive skill to deal with the enemies who managed to scale up with you.

Skyrim farming:

for you to increase a certain skill, you have to use it over and over again... the thing is, you can use it on everything that's alive, not only in the hostile areas.

say, you want to level "sneaking" ... what you basically do is Sneak around obvious areas, like say, a place where there's only one person in. and oh, there's also a bug. there are some characters that you can sneak on and attack and they won't hit back. this will allow you to power level.

now, i wish they'd fix this thing by allowing you to level up more in "hostile areas" ... and only letting level up slowly in towns and such.

sometimes all it takes to level up is taping a dang mouse button, having dinner, a little tv and going back to find your character is now level 70 in sneaking.

An oft forgotten thing...

The guardian stones. Mage - Thief - Warrior.
Use them well and you will have little to no issues with getting skills up. I use them to get my main assets up, then fast travel to start on secondary abilities.

Also, sleeping pays off. 8 hours of sleep bonus exp over time adds up.

I found that the guild quests lacked in length. However, I found that the Dark Brotherhood, though short, was absolutely amazing! Brilliant quest line!

I've completed The Companion and Thieves Guild quests, and I agree. They left a bit more to be desired.

I haven't even touched the Civil War quest line; I can't decide who I want to side with. If anything, I don't really like either of them at the moment.

p.s. - that hat is awesome!

I've done a ton of quests but I really enjoy the odd things you come across, like Bards Leap. Anyone find this yet? None of my friends have. I really dug it when I found it. Also finding the log that goes between one side of the river to the other, between two huge waterfalls was great. Nice surprise too...

Yes! I love the exploration side of things!

My first 2 games i did the "powergame" style, where i just focused on being as strong as humanly possible... The first was my assassin: sneak, archery, dual-daggers, alchemy/enchantment/smithing to geth my weapons and armor up to their respective caps. Then the pure-mage with 100% cost reduction in Conjuration and Destruction.

Powerful... but not really fun...

NOW... i've been playing a ton of D&D games (Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Tower of Elemental Evil), and my new character is based on a Cleric. Mace, heavy armor, block, restoration, alchemy and illusion schools, mainly... and i've actually been taking my time to walk everywhere... no fast travel... see a random tower/cave/dungeon/ruins? Explore it!

It's been WAY more satisfying than steamrolling the game.

Bummer! Got my smithing to 100 and Lydia got killed on a quest and didn't noticed she was dead.. She got all of my dragon loots! ;(

Damn that Lydia! How dare she die and inconvenience you... ;)

If your gameplay experience is anything like mine, you can just walk around and dragons find you every 30 minutes or so.

I am running a dark elf thief. I generally suck at video games, but I really loved Might & Magic II way back when and am having fun with Skyrim. As I said, I am a terrible gamer (my first quest for the Thieve's guild to that island really turned into a bloodbath because I took Lydia with me - she's dead now) and am curious if everyone keeps the combat level at the default? I had to lower it once to take out a dragon and am tempted to leave it a little lower.
