I mixed the full band a couple of times after Paul did his time. At the end of one sound check he just gave me an indifferent look and said: “can’t complain.” The band manager took me aside and told me that was a big compliment…There used to be an excellent blues harp player, Paul deLay, doing West Coast gigs with the Paul deLay band. Sadly, Paul had problems with the drink and the cocoa powder and wound up in the klink. His band kept going during his absence as the No deLay band. They got back together for a while after his release, but eventually the devil took his soul.
