I mean the sound of Demeter's pre-amps, which have (in my opinion) a very clear and hi-fi voice, with powerful EQ and a strong output signal. That signature sound has carried forward through their many products, and was also the basis for Eden's early pre-amps. Does that answer help any? I'm not very good at describing sound in words :).

Gotcha,
I didn't realize the Demeter was a brand. I can say that the Puma has a nice focuses tone, but can easily warm up with a few tweaks. I would not call it woolly or old school.

Good, thanks. You wouldn't describe Demeter's tone as wooly or old school either. I won't say it's the opposite of that, but at least his older products weren't known for dirt. Demeter is very much a brand - look at post #80. If I had all the money in the world I'd gobble that thing up :)!

I see. Yeah my main concern was size and power. The Puma 900 ticked all the boxes for me.

I just put some Genalex Gold Lion tubes in my Demeter and what a difference they made! So I have decided to hang on to my Demeter. It just sounds too good now! :D The Puma sounds fantastic as well! Two different flavors of awesome!

So I had a chance to mess with my Puma 900. It is in practically brand new condition. I ran it through my Fearless F112 with my Sire VV7 5.

This amp is very focused and clear. That can be tamed with the TASTE knob, which adds some grit to the tone. It definitely has some power, and I will use it on my next gig at the end of the month.

From the Puma 900 manual regarding the super versatile/useful/effective "Taste" control:

TASTE
This unique feature adds to the superiority of the PUMA’s tonal qualities. Leave the control in the centre position if you seek a more “natural” sound. When turned to the right (clockwise) towards “RICH” the sound gets increasingly fatter with lots of low-end punch, ending in a warm, vintage-like tone. When turned to the left (counter clockwise) towards “DRY” this control adds urgent attack and midrange growl.

The “TASTE” control allows you to quickly and effectively soften those instruments which sound a little harsh. At the same time bass guitars with a muddy, booming neck pickup gain definition by turning the “TASTE” control towards the “DRY” position.

You can literally use the TASTE control to "tune in" any bass to your tonal preferences or to "tune" your sound for any room and the control is very usable throughout its whole range.

Dude, there's a Shuttle 9.0 right here in the classifieds right now including shipping for $375!!! The 900w may be more than you need, but too much is better than not enough. Can't beat that screaming deal, and quite frankly I'm hella surprised it's been up for a few days already

Edit: oops, i see you already picked up a Puma. Very cool ... hope it does the tricks you need it for

That's a great deal for sure. I've owned a few Genz Benz amps, and had my eye once on the Shuttle 9.
